Garden Pictures

Basil and cilantro.

image

Cabbage and celery.

image

Two different kinds of zucchini and celery. The celery is growing from the ends cut off store celery. I don't know how it will do, but it is supposed to like cool nights, and we can certainly provide those.

Tomatoes: Early Girl and a short season strain developed in Russia.

image

Green peppers (inside the cages), Beefsteak tomato, and some bush beans in the back.

Here is a cute dog picture:

Dogs carrying a package. But look again, it's just one dog.

Try to get a cat to do something like this.

If I could grow anything, it would be tomatoes. The market seems to be my garden of necessity.

Sending growing blessings to your cheerful plants!

Can't go by what the weather says. Delhi is in a world of its own and I'm at 1600 feet. My buddies at 2000 feet get another 3 or 4 degrees colder than we do here. I have the same problem with 'maters in September. Anything that hasn't ripened by the second week won't. Best it will do is turn pink and get soft and slightly wrinkled.

What a cute tolerant dog. And your garden looks great.

Love your photos.

Thanks! Next year I want to have scallions, and maybe even shallots.

Once that dog picture goes the rounds, I'm looking forward to seeing the imitators.

Veg is ahead of mine! Cool nights seem to help!
comment by jjoohhnn on June 26, 2013 5:12 PM ()
The dirt is heated with electric cables that we assume are working, so we're cheating. The cool nights are not going to serve us well when the tomatoes are bigger because they won't get ripe on the vine. I just looked at your weather forecast and your overnight lows are about 10 degrees warmer than ours.

BTW the vegetables are fabulous. They look much better than mine. I couldn't find early girls this year and that have always done well for me.

I go sit out there every morning and watch them grow. Next winter I'll have fun planning it out better, based upon how much room things take up this summer. All the Early Girl plants must have ended up in Colorado. The Beefsteak is lagging behind - it probably wasn't a good choice.

The dogs are adorable and you are right Cats have too much disdain for our
approval to do tricks.

I laugh when I think about how Eloise defies us when she escapes to the great outdoors: for such a small cat, she is very strong-minded.

Nothing great yet.Slowly coming along. There is always the Farmer's Market if needed.
We have a great one here.I do not like dogs dressed up. think that it is Hiatus.I know a lot liked them .But mostly female not male.
comment by fredo on June 26, 2013 10:04 AM ()
It has gotten warm all of a sudden and I found myself wanting the petunias and vegetables to be already beautiful and ripening. It's only been three weeks.

Cats have too much self-respect to allow humans to dress them up so foolishly.
comment by steeve on June 26, 2013 9:31 AM ()
some dogs enjoy dress up -- neighbor's dog was superman last Halloween, and he was a real ham about it. (Springer spaniel named Gus.) Don't be giving dogs human responses.

Isn't that the truth about cats. The dog looks so grave and responsible, but I'm sure he's just thinking of his next meal.

All I am getting with my turnips and beets are LEAVES!!!!!
comment by greatmartin on June 26, 2013 8:51 AM ()
beet and turnip greens are good.
reply by boots586 on June 27, 2013 5:38 PM ()
My radishes are doing that, too. Next time, buy a bale of straw at the Dollar Store (hah!) to mix into your soil so that it's lighter and provides space for the beet and turnip roots to expand underground. I've heard that is the thing to do for onions.
