Porch Time and Columbines

The hot days of summer are here. Grab a refreshing beverage and find a shady spot. The nice thing about a screened porch is it keeps the bugs out.

Columbines will grow just about anywhere. This isn't the same as saying they grow everywhere. Here is one of ours that grows in the corner of a flagstone step.

They don't appear to have a scent, by the way.

This is my favorite color combination: purple and yellow. We have just the one plant, right by the downspout out front.

There was a very nice red and white columbine growing out of a rock next to the driveway, but it was lost when we had to replace the steps. I'm going to see if I can buy one and get it to grow there again.

Happy flowers!
Thinking relaxing thoughts, looking at your cozy, comfy porch....

They are gorgeous flowers. I wish they grew here. I need Shasta daisies and if I find some, I will share.

I'd forgotten about those daisies. They are easy to grow, and reliable, and would be good in front of the red cabin if I can get them going. Thanks for the reminder.

I could paint and write in the Brown Palace until the cows came home.

I think so, too. The ghosts of the owners in 1913 when that house was built would come out to keep you company, just because it's you.

Way to go on a hot day the heading with columbines made me think you would be sitting around inside with a cold drink and eating columbines------- there was a lolly called columbines and that's what I thought of

I'll have to google that lolly.

"Hot days of summer"? Never heard of them!!!

I'll bet! It finally rained last night (with hail) so this morning we have humidity, another thing you've never heard of.

love the flowers

After a few years of re-blooming, the hybridized blue and white columbine supposedly reverts to pale yellow and white, but I have been fortunate that the ones around my yard have kept their pretty colors. My mother was trying to get them established around the yard in 1985 and then she died, but I doubt these are the same ones; my dad's second wife probably planted them.
