I have to explain the No Smoking sign: We have a family friend who thinks she is part of our family and she invites herself to my house when I'm not here. I'll be in Las Vegas and she'll email me: "I want to get up to the cabin some time." Not 'your cabin' or 'do you mind' but The Cabin as if it's the family place and she's family. I don't really mind, but think it is odd. One spring when I came home, I found cigarette butts all over the front porch (and out in the yard near the front door). Her old boy friend was sitting out there smoking, and used a tin can for an ashtray, and they forgot about it, so it sat out there all winter and the wind blew the can over. I figured This is what it feels like to have a son-in-law: could do without him, but he's part of the package because she likes him. I found that sign in one of the garages and put it in there as kind of a joke. But not a joke.

Two of the five bird feeders behind our house.

I'm not sure why I took this picture, maybe I was just testing the camera. We have about 40 to 50 birds. They all come at once at dawn and dusk.

I like the photo of dead ants. DEAD, DEAD, DEAD ants. I wish I could figure out how to make my ants dead ants. Nothing seems to work. In some places, the earth seems to be moving. I haven't had that happen since I was nineteen...

We just bought some Spectracide brand Triazicide ant killer at Home Depot, but those particular ants were killed with Diazinon.

I think it might be because my mother's name was Louise, but I don't think of this cat as being named after her.

Think i'll come and stay awhile , deer in backyard would be great to see, deer are not native to Aussie but are farmed for venison , a few in national parks but very rare

White tailed deer are very common in the Chicago area. I have seen them walk down my suburban street. I live close to some open space.

Eloise is a charmer. Ted would approve of your no smoking sign. He is so
intolerant about smoking and ash trays.

Cats do return to their old favourite spots. Angel's spots are my bed, the guest bed, the seat of the couch, the back of the couch, the seat of the armchair, the back of the armchair, her own kitty bed and her current most favourite spot.....MY CHAIR!
Eloise is beautiful. Do you brush her? If so, could you save her undercoat for me?

Cats are so funny because they will have a favorite spot for awhile, and then pick another and not return.

The top photo looks like a painting. Eloise is just the kind of fluffy, multicolored cat that old art portrayed so often, cause they're pretty.

The other night we saw Bucky the Beaver out in the river, but no sign of any foxes.
