Republicans Want Ed's Opinion

Ed is a registered Republican and has allowed himself to remain one so that he can vote in Republican primaries and have some say in who they choose. But he always votes progressive now. So since he is on their books as being (ugh) one of them, they send him surveys and he just got one that I read today.

It gives choices that leave no or little room for progressive options.

Here is an example:

Which of the following factors do you feel is most adversely affecting our economy and keeping it from rebounding: (The economy is rebounding but
they left that out).

__Burdensome taxes
__Tight credit
__Massive government spending
__People’s lack of confidence in government solutions
__Excessive government regulation of business
__Negative impact of ObamaCare
__Uncertainty
__Unemployment—
__Other (Here I would write in “Obstructionist Republican tactics in congress)

Anyway, I’m going to show this to Ed and let him fill it in.

You cannot have a sane political discussion in Oklahoma. They equate
being Christian with being Republican, nevermind that their Jesus was
a liberal.

In my mind, the terms family values, Christian values and "faith" have become synonymous with hypocrisy and bigotry. And they don't get it.

Having studied how to design surveys I will state that the republican survey is not a valid one. It is called a 'political statement.' Bias must be one of their oaths.

They've gone off the deep end, no doubt and what is dismaying is even the moderates don't get that they have to stand against the loonies.

Mr. YouKnow used to be a registered Republican, but lately changed to Independent. He doesn't talk much, and certainly not about politics, so even after 37 years of marriage I can be surprised at the answers when I ask where he stands on issues like abortion or foreign policy. It's not so much that we are voting for something, it that's we're cancelling out the other one's vote.

Ed refers to me as channeling Emma Goldman (1869-1940). She played a pivotal role in the development of anarchist political philosophy in North America and Europe in the first half of the 20th century. So he is more right than me but we vote alike. He despises what has happened to the Republican Party. It's just as well you and Mr. YouKnow don't discuss politics.
