Newsroom aired its final season episode last week and in it, several ongoing story lines were resolved. For one think the McAvoy anchor played by Jeff Daniels, comes to his senses, and realizes he has been self destructive, and asks McKenzie to marry him. Maggie and Lisa finally start talking again, the ruling family, headed by Jane Fonda as the owner of the station, are now totally on the side of the news team. Some critics have said this sounded more like Sorkin didn’t think there would be another season so he resolved some of the continuing conflicts. I hope that’s not the case and I can see many ways the story could go on. I love this show and I also love that the unresolved relationship between McAvoy and McKenzie was not dragged on season after season. Talk about an itch that never gets scratched. There’s lots to write about without relying only on McAvoy’s anger because McKenzie cheated on him a thousand years ago.
And tonight I am watching NCIS and the team has been fragmented, un-badged, and trying to solve the murder of the secnav. It turns out also that Ziva is on the hit list. She is leaving the show, which dismayed me a lot because, next to Mark Harmon, she is my favorite. So when I learn she is on an assassination list, I am thinking that is how they are going to write her out of the script. Whoa. Stop right there. I am sick and tired of watching favorite characters die off. They can write her out without ending her. She can then come back for guest appearances in future episodes. Altogether, this is a far more satisfying viewing experience for her fans. If they do kill her as a way of writing her out, they have lost me as a fan.
Next: I saw a trailer for The Good Wife and am happy that show is starting its new season soon.
So I am in here writing and not watching NCIS because I don’t want to see what happens next. They have got too close to tragedy for my taste.
