Life and Events Boring

My favorite shows on TV are The Good Wife, The Newsroom, and NCIS, the original.

Recently I became aware of The Comeback, a show that stars Lisa Kudrow. Apparently this is a show she had 10 years ago and they have brought it back. They needn’t have done so on my account. There was a pre-series promo with her explaining how happy she is to be doing this again and everyone is very excited that it’s back. I watched a little which was quite enough. The interesting thing is I always liked Lisa Kudrow, but the character she plays is cloying and ingenuous and these qualities are so overdone that now I can’t stand her. Cute can be lethal you know.

And, much as I love NCIS, I wish the Abby character was not so infantile. She started out more level-headed and somewhere along the line, the writers decided they’d make her a ditz -- with technical smarts, but emotionally, a five-year-old. And we're supposed to love her for it. Also I miss the Ziva David characer played by Cote de Pablo. At least they didn't kill her off.

Our friend, Clare came over for lunch and I bought deli stuff for us to eat. She has invited us for Thanksgiving and we have accepted. You would think, great, I will be spared cooking a big meal, but that’s not how it works. Ed wants a full Thanksgiving dinner anyway, done maybe the next day.

My friend John picked up an old Schwinn bike being thrown out, mainly because no one is using it anymore – it might suit my size. He’ll lower the seat for me. It’s is worth being fixed up if it is a better fit than the cheapie I have now which is just a wee bit too tall for me and if I am forced to stop on even a little downgrade, I can crash. I’ve done it. Not fun.

I had an info session with a bike shop owner and he recommended a bike with seven speeds. We don’t have hills but we have wind. Also these bikes have brakes on the handlebars and I hope I can get used to using them. The bikes I’ve had all brake with the pedals. The prices start at $440 and I’d need add-ons like a night light, and a basket, which would be mounted behind the seat, not in front. So the cost for this one bike I looked at with the extras would be close to $600. I’m procrastinating.

My gtf (go-to-friend) Nadine is having a birthday open house for her husband, Mickey, who will be 90 on Monday. I will bring him some chocolates and a card. Ed may or not be there the same time as me. He has another ward who is very demanding so I told Ed that the next time he calls on a weekend, I won’t take the message. If he keeps this up, Ed will resign. This is a voluntary guardianship so Ed is not obligated to place him with anyone else. The guy also has a friend who has been caring for him and he wants to marry her so that he doesn’t have to pay her.

The house next door got sold to a woman who is renting to buy. This way she avoids having to pay flood insurance. I haven’t met her yet. John B., the former owner, called to tell us. I have a key to the house and will knock on her door and give it to her. Might as well make friends.

I have new neighbors who have been there many months and need to go say hello. That's my new year's resolution. They aren't within sight of my house, but are the next house - about 1/2 a mile away and my excuse was the chaos caused by the flood.

Ed said last night that he wanted to go with me when I return the key, so I have to wait till he has time. He spends most of the day in the field with guardian duties.

I do the cooking around here so we go the the Community Dinner on Thanksgiving. Not that Donna doesn't want a turkey here too, but it's just a "normal" meal. As for the neighbor: you could have a little fun if she doesn't know that you have a key. Nothing drastic, just move a few nick-naks round when she's not home.

I have no stomach for clandestine mischief. Just think of getting caught and sued. Nice thought, though.

I know a guy who caught his next-door neighbor inside his house turning on all the water faucets to run his water bill up.

You have parties to go to and that will be fun. Hope your new neighbor
is a nice person. Ed does love left overs, doesn't he?

Ed will eat steak leftovers and turkey/stuffing leftovers. He let's most others go to the trash (eventually). I supposed I'll have to order the turkey from Publix -- we get it cooked and re-heat and we get their holiday cranberry/orange relish. I don't get any of their side dishes as they are godawful. I guess it's the chemicals they use to preserve. How hard is it anyway, to make your own sweet potatoes and mashed regular? Stove Top dressing is just fine with me. I might add some chopped apple. I'll do my best.
