There was a Kathy Griffin re-run this morning (8/13) on Bravo and it wasn’t her stand-up but a slice out of her life that she does from time to time. She was having her house renovated by a young decorator with “big†dreams. Her interior has been deconstructed and I hope he has a solution because one of the things he pooh-poohed is a load-bearing wall that he had torn out. I presume he is having a replacement installed.
What I found really dismaying, however, is that she and her mother traveled to Ontario, California to judge a toddler pageant that included weeks-old infants dolled up and paraded by their mommies and then the event graduated to 4-year old strippers. Now if it is a felony for a dirty old man to look at kiddie porn on line, why was this pageant not raided? I would also hazard a guess that all the pedophiles in the heartland look for these events and watch them and in some cases may even try to find ways to connect with some of these children. After all, someone murdered Jon Benet, and it was at least in part because she had been sexualized and showcased.
Kathy's underlying message may have been to show how mindless these events are, hiding under her stock-in-trade enthusiasm (some of it faked I'm sure) for anything she gets involved with, but what she did instead is to further legitimize this travesty of childhood for those who are easily led – encouraging the “isn’t that cute†factor and ignoring its larger implications. I think any female who wants to be a bimbo is entitled to aim for zero for her dream, but let her get to that decision on her own. These events program the children to be bimbos from day one. They also had young boys in the competition and they postured in their mini tuxedos and smoothed their hair, posing as offensively as any of the girls.
I also think that in focusing the children’s attention on a self-image with no substance, they are programmed to fail in life. I’d like to see a kid thus indoctrinated deal with the age of 30 without wanting to commit suicide.
Them’s me thoughts.
