The Florida Vote

I have been feeling disheartened since the monumental lapse of judgment by FBI Director James Comey in announcing the discovery of new e mails. He went against all protocols for announcing any event of this kind so close to an election and also because he doesn’t yet know what is in the e mails. The Justice Department strongly advised him against any such announcement but he went ahead anyway, and was thought to be covering his ass. At the same time, he said nothing about an investigation ongoing about Paul Manafort’s (Trump’s ex campaign manager) ties to the Russian mob. When asked why he had said nothing about that, Comey said “too close to the election.” Double standard?

The maddening thing about all these negatives surrounding Hillary is that she is tainted with every piece of sexual misconduct by any male she knows. Please, how is what Anthony Weiner did, even relevant? The connection is that Huma Abedin, his estranged wife, is Hillary’s top aide. What do they think happened? Honey, please pick up the cleaning and, by the way, you’ll never guess what Hillary told me today? In case you don’t know about him, he is a former representative from New York who posted photos of his penis to women. He is now being investigated for sending lewd texts to an underage girl.

Everyone has been blathering about Comey’s integrity. In July, when the first investigation came to an end, Comey said nothing found was worthy of prosecution. Then, apparently really annoyed about that, he had to poison the well by adding that her conduct was exceedingly careless. This uncalled for opinion was also not standard procedure in these matters. I think he should resign. I think he caved to Republican pressure to say something. Following his announcement, I watched the numbers. Some analysts said there was no shift, but the race is tightening anyway, which merely showcases that if Donald Trump can avoid peeing on his own shoe for more than 10 minutes, Republicans forget all about how creepy he is.

But tonight, I got some truly heartening news. On his program, Lawrence O’Donnell had on a vote canvassing outfit that has correctly predicted all presidential elections since 1980. They said that early voting in Florida was 53% in favor of Clinton and that 28% of that vote was Republicans voting for Clinton. They say Florida will go for Clinton and if that happens, Trump can kiss the presidency goodbye. Capping this news O’Ddonnell also reported that the Ku Klux Klan has endorsed Trump. Of course they have. They know a bigot when they see one.
I am mighty happy to hear this and feel like I can breathe again.

And, parenthetically, a New York friend who always votes Republican told me she will vote for Hillary. I nearly fell off my chair. We go back a long way – we trained at the same ballet schools, and grew close over the years. I’m happy now.

It will probably never be adequately explained to us, why Comey did it. I wonder what new horrors will come after the election.

I think Comey is partisan and wants to please, or at least avoid displeasing, his Republican friends. I think his integrity is selective. There is no other explanation. He is caving to his ideology abd succumbing to chronieism. So much for strength of character. But, then, he is a Republican and they have been burning us for 8 years in the Congress. What else is new?

It ain't easy being blue in a red state! This was all so uncalled for
and I think Comey should resign. Mud never seems to stick to Trump, even
when his supporters hear it from his own mouth. I have my fingers
crossed until the next six days are over.

lots of conservatives on my island and most of the lawns had Republican signs in the last two elections and yet the island went for Obama. I take heart in that. Democratic voters were keeping a low profile. We know arch conservatives are mean at times and we didn't want vandalism. This time, very few signs, maybe two or three houses. Does that mean they won't vote for Trump or they just don't want to say so? We'll see.
