A ray of hope re. net neutrality

Democratic U.S. Senators are fighting back, with the “magic number” of 30 co-sponsors for a bill keeping net neutrality provisions intact having now been reached. Thirty co-sponsors is a “magic number,” because it means that a measure must be voted upon by the whole U.S. Senate and not simply relegated to a committee, from where it would almost certainly never return.

The thirtieth co-sponsor is Missouri’s Democratic U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, who announced her decision to co-sponsor the bill — first introduced by Massachusetts Democratic U.S. Senator Ed Markey.

Trump

I ordered my copy of “Fire and Fury” from Amazon, but I won’t be getting it till the end of January or early February. I’ll have to bite the bullet till then. The book is super successful, book stores sold out, everyone who reads (no Trump supporters on this list) getting it.

Computer glitch

I got an ESET (security system) message on my webmail and I couldn’t get to my inbox. I followed instructions but the program bounced me back to the original error message. And I couldn't get rid of it. After several days and rebooting which didn't do it, I called my phone provider (CenturyLink) and was told to use a different browser, so I got it on Internet Explorer, but this was cumbersome and errors occurred on some messages and I had to click on those twice. Today, my computer person walked me through getting rid of it, and it is gone, but now I get another error message, that I can easily get rid of and then I get my e mail. If I reboot, maybe this will disappear too. For some reason, ESET thought CenturyLink was a bank. Even if I was a techie, I never could have solved that one and I don’t know how my tech figured that out. Would love to trade brains with her.

Social Prescience

My horoscope is so cheerful I want to find the person who writes it and do him or her serious harm. And this is not because I am not basically an optimist, despite the Greek tragedy component of my psyche that I have inherited and at times orders my behavior.

When I was at the NYT Syndicate, we sold an astrology column, name of writer forgotten. His predictions matched me so perfectly, it was eerie. Then I learned he and I had the same birthday. Then he was coming into the office, and everyone wanted us to meet and he avoided that, and I learned he was gay, so maybe he thought they were trying to match us. Paranoia sometimes dominates. Anyway, his loss. We could have had some great chats.

The hoped for end of our collective nightmare

Events in politics continue to escalate. The President now being openly questioned on sentience after his maniacal tweet that he is a smart genius.

All together, now, the countdown to his demise …. 10, 9, 8 … Then we’ll give a party and sing THE SONG. “Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead …”

Remember that scandal when Nancy Reagan was consulting an astrologer?

Nancy Reagan bored the crap out of me. The Nancy/Ronnie
love story bored the crap out of me. Once, when Ed complained that I was wearing jeans, I said "You should have married Nancy Reagan." (And been bored to death.)

The real Stable Genius was Mister Ed. I've thought that Trump has a character neurosis, but they don't seem to use that term anymore. I just recall that a character neurotic isn't really aware of how hilarious or absurd he seems, his (impulse-ridden) personality is completely hardened.

Trump's personality disorders are being magnified by the onset of senile dementia or Alzheimer's. His father had it. Mental health professionals are finally talking about it after being very careful to be mum all year. I'd feel sorry for him if he wasn't a prick before this all overcame him.

How I would love to be singing that song now. He has gotten away with so much that I am beginning to feel hopeless.

Watching Rachel Maddow keeps me hopeful. She always has the latest and develops each story with a ton of background.
