Avoidance of the Day

I spent inauguration day totally avoiding the event and news programs that would highlight it. In the evening, Ed and I drove to a new Polish restaurant for dinner. The car radio was on NPR and I can tolerate hearing about the event, but cannot for a nanosecond listen to Trump at all, and they started broadcasting his speech, and I shut it off. The dinner was excellent. I ordered lamb osso bucco, a first. The meat was so tender it just fell off the bone.

I spent most of today writing responses to Trump supporter comments on Facebook who think the demonstrators should “grow up.” All of these people have memory loss of massive proportions because they have forgotten the infantile and vicious crowd behavior at Trump rallies. If growing up means normalizing a bloated fascist with a toxic agenda, count me out. And, yes, I think he talks and acts like Mussolini, who I remember.

The other things I did today was 30 minutes at a 2 ½ mile speed setting with a 2% incline on the treadmill, and later a 40 minute bike ride. The treadmill is in the bedroom and I watch the TV in there, otherwise it would be sheer boredom.

Solveige came over about 5 today, and Ed helped her with a paper she had to do for her nursing course, and then I got it and helped her with the sentence structure. I made spinach pasta for us, using a commercial red sauce -- I add sautéed onions, mushrooms, canned clams, and small shrimp to the sauce. It’s pretty good. Sol said it was better than at a restaurant.

I also listened to Sol’s boyfriend woes, but I don’t mind, and if I may say it (as shouldn’t), am full of wise counsel.

Comments:

The family member who is pro-Trump mentioned the wilder protests that occurred outside the inauguration, calling them "just horrible." I silently felt in league with those. Triumph the insult comic dog, interviewing Trump supporters that day, could not say "President Trump" without throwing up.

I also know some trump supporters on fb who seem to be running out of defense of trump. They have already resorted to namecalling and personal attack. The end isn't far off.

I decided 'the wall' will consist of making America so horrible that no immigrant would want to come here.

You can't expect grace from the crass and graceless so that figures. I can't understand how evangelicals favor the p^^^^^y grabber, or how
people could have voted against beneficial social programs.

They didn't. They ignored the negatives, preferring to think he was only "joking", and they believed that his rhetoric was only campaign stuff and he would not actually act on what he said. They invented someone who did not exist and voted for that person. I have no sympathy for any of them and if they are financially devastated, I won't care. Because they have done it to all of us. They have a vote. They should honor it by informing themselves.

I was curious so I watched the inaugural. It is history, after all. Some commentators called it "graceless"...and I tend to agree. Opinion here at Shady Pines tends to favor, as one might expect. We'll see what tune they sing when he starts lopping off Social Security benefits etc.

Okay, if our plan firms up, let me know. I got enough for a ticket.
