A Light in the Trees

Okay, let me get all the hexed vexed and discombobulated stuff off my chest in one fell swoop. In amongst all the other annoying aggravating and downright hurtful things that have happened lately, here came another.

One night at midnight as I was getting ready to go to bed, I smelled smoke so strongly it alarmed me. I checked the house out and everything was okay. But when I opened the back door, the odor of smoke was overpowering and seemed to be coming from my neighbor's place down the road. So I haul ass off in the car to drive down there to check it out.

Strata of thick smoke was layered over the house. During the day the neighbor had been burning off debris from new ground he was clearing. That night a weather front was moving in and a weather phenomena called inversion was in play, and stacked that unmoving thick blanket of smoke over his place. I could see they were up and aware of the smoke, so I went back home.

As I was driving to and from this excursion, I noticed a beam of light up in the top of some very tall pine trees. It was only when I put my headlight beams on "High" that this happened, and it was only the left headlight. That cockeyed headlight was throwing a beam of light way up into the trees. So I took it to a repairman who adjusted some bolt under the hood next to the light. That night, tried out the headlight--still a beam in the trees.
Went back to him and got my money back.

Then I took my Honda to the Honda dealership. They said "This light has been adjusted. There's nothing wrong with it." I said then why is a beam of light going up in the trees? The right headlight doesn't do it, just the left one. The service manager said "Well tell me what you want done to it and I'll do it." I say I come to you like a car doctor--I tell you the symptoms, and you're supposed to give me a diagnosis and fix it. He was short with me and said snappishly "Just get in the car and drive it!"

Next day I called to owner of the dealership (I was in the throes of the worst cold in 12 years and and in a croaky voice) and complained about the service manager. The owner said "But he's been with me for years!" What the F*** does that have to do with anything?
What happened to the customer is always right? To customer service period? Customer service is DEAD.
I reckon that when I drive at night, I'll have to get used to shooting a beam of light in the sky when the High beam is on.

At least you got your money back, yes? Will you maybe see some interesting things in the night sky you would otherwise miss?

Hi teal; It concerns me that if I were driving at night and put on the high beams, that cockeyed light might blind some oncoming driver or something--but if the beam goes up in the trees maybe it doesn't make any difference.

All you need is a rifle to coon hunt. Of course, the high beam won't be there when you want it to be. Also, no more night driving.

Hi sol; Ha Ha! That's what I told the Honda service manager--All I need is a rifle and I could coon hunt. He didn't think it was funny but I did!

How the heck did this happen all of a sudden? I know you weren't carrying 6 bowling balls in the trunk of your Honda (were you?)

I've had no reason to be out driving at night for a long time, so God only knows how long that light has been cockeyed.(No bowling balls!)

Hi larry; This cold has made me feel rotten, and I just didn't feel like sitting at the computer.
Hope you are well?

Weird.

Hi jj; I'm not a mechanic, but I cam look at that entire headlight and see the right one is clear, but the housing on the left one is cloudy as if there was a gap where dust has gotten in to cloud the lens. I think some yahoo gave my car a hard thump on the left front of my car in the Walmart parking lot and dislodged something in the light housing.
