Whoopie and Barbara

So I hear there was some sniping between Whoopie Goldberg and Barbara Walters on their morning show "The View" and naturally it happened on a day when I wasn't watching.
It seems Barbara was hyping a special she was airing that night about the Royal Baby, and Whoopie made some remarks she didn't give a whoop (in so many words) about the baby, royal family, etc. and Barbara was offended. Then off the air it is said that Whoopie commented she would be glad when Walters retired. No love lost between the two,it seems.

Okay, a few months ago Barbara came down with shingles and was off The View for several weeks. She laughingly said she got the shingles from a dear friend, Frank Campanella an actor famous for his Dracula role. It just so happens that several years ago, Whoopie had a hot and heavy romance with Campanella--Maybe there's some subliminal animosity about that between the two.
I don't watch this show much when Whoopie is the host because she dresses so sloppily, and that dreadlock hairstyle always looks like a dustmop in need of a shampoo.

Anyway, writing about them keeps my mind off writing about myself. Love y'all, susil

I personally think you would have to be blind to romance Whoppi but who am I to comment on affairs of the heart. Poor Barbara has had one face lift too many and it is time she retired in 2014. Meow!!

Shingles are not caught. You get them sometimes if you had chicken pox in the past.

Hi jon; As a nurse, I knew shingles aren't contagious, but maybe Barbara didn't!

shingle is not catchy and she had chicken pox so they say.Time for this show to retired.
All of the cast should venture out for different jobs as they are wasting their talent there.
They can snip all they want and who gives a blank .You got the message.

Hi fredo; A few minutes a day is all I can stomach of The View. Then I'm reading or watch PBS.

She caught chicken pox - Frank L had shingles. But she's got a nerve saying he's responsible. Anyone who is 83 and has never had chicken pox is risking fate/an idiot not to get inoculated.
I thought Frank Langella was GORGEOUS, especially in Eccentricities of a Nightingale, with Blythe Danner. And terrifying in The Ninth Gate (w/ Johnny Depp)!

I have always appreciated Langella's talent, looks and sensuality. He lived on the upper West Side in Manhattan (maybe he is still there) and I once saw him at a restaurant on 9th Avenue named "Curtains Up", catering to Broadway actors. I behaved rationally.

Hi drmaus; LangellaAm I embarrassed! Of course Langella, not Campanella!
Anyway, Langella always had a dark, brooding quality that appealed to me.

Whoopi's love was Frank Langella, a star in his own right.(Roy Campanella was a black baseball star from the 60s-70s. I think he was a Yankee.) I always wondered what Langella saw in her. As a younger actor, I thought he was sexy and romantic. I think one of his last big roles was a portrayal of Nixon.

Hi teal; as I have redfaced-ly admitted to drmaus, it was Langella, not Campanella! Whoo boy. That shows hows how much attention I pay to the lives of the famous!

I've only seen that show a few times, back when Star Jones was on there. Seems like she was supposed to be the sassy, jolly fat gal to give comic relief, and then she lost weight and got all witchy. I wondered if that was why they signed up Whoopie - black comedienne.

Is shingles catching? I just read where shingles itself can't be caught, but if the person hasn't had chickenpox, they can get it from someone with shingles. Maybe it's a different form of herpes they were all passing around.

Hi Laura; If you've ever had chickenpox, that virus stays in your system forever and something will sometimes trigger it to re-emerge as shingles. My patients who had it say it is the most painful malady imaginable, and it does look awful and itchy and red etc.
An hour of The View is more than I can take, so a few minutes every day is my quota.

I was mortified when I took my shingles prescription to a pharmacist and he starts lecturing me about herpes.
