Nine days ago, I went to see the doctor at the clinic because I have been extremely fatigued for about four weeks. I literally have to drag myself out of bed to get up and bathe and take care of routine chores. So the doctor drew blood for a bunch of lab tests and a week later the office nurse phoned with the results. This girl could not pronounce medical terminology. I said I'd be in for a copy of the results so I could see for myself.
Okay, they had a copy ready for me. I'm standing there at the receptionist's desk looking at the two and a half pages of reports. Kidney and liver function, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, thyroid, all fine. Hgb 13 (good), triglycerides up a little, HgA1C (long term blood sugar levels) and a bunch of other tests normal. The last page was totally about the Epstein-Barr virus that was fatiguing me.
The reports showed that an old Epstein-Barr virus infection that is thought to cause mononeucleosis, had reactivated. I had to make another appointment with the doctor to go over the results (which pisses me off--I only had a few questions to ask.) She says stress, poor diet, not enough sleep--anything could have stressed my immune system and caused this virus to emerge again. She recommended exercise and rest, vitamins, zinc supplements and Vit. C supplements.
I showed her a column in the paper where a woman with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome had felt better after receiving B12 injections, so she gave me one. She gave me a printout about the E-B virus. By high school age 95% of humans have been infected. There's nothing to be done except treat the symptoms. So I was exhausted from CFS; then turned over in bed and had instant onset of pain in right arm from pinched nerve.
Pain over- rules anything else that might be bothering you, but after a day and a half of pain, it subsided to bearable point and I got up and went about my daily life. (Please no sympathy etc. I don't like that. I'm just telling you what happened, and thanks for listening.) susil
