My wife would tell you that one of my most annoying habits is that I whistle. Well, it annoys her anyway, but I enjoy whistling and sometimes I'm not even aware that I'm doing it. I might be pumping gas, or wandering around a grocery store, or working in the yard, and suddenly become aware that I'm whistling away like a human tea kettle.
As a life-long whistler, I'd give anything to be in Louisberg, North Carolina starting tomorrow for International Whistlers Week from the 17th to the 21st. They will hold a whistlers school and also have a classical competition. I've always wanted to work out a whistling rendition of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."
Bernstein's "West Side Story" also has some wonderful tunes to whistle.
Perhaps my love of whistling is why I've always liked the mockingbird whose whistling mimicry is so wonderful.
