Despite the drought and intense heat, my walks along county roads are pleasant. Why? It's not the beans or corn. It's the wildflowers growing along side.
Queen Anne's Lace, purple clover, chicory, mustard, etc. color the ditches on both sides. Evidently, they have deep roots and get extra moisture from road runoff.
These flowers--I refuse to call them weeds--attract butterflies and bees, rabbits and birds (esp. goldfinches).
This all makes for a very enjoyable after-dinner walk.
