News from the Front

Wednesday greetings.
Woke up this morning to oatmeal with blueberries and my letter to the editor published (finally). You can access it via: jconline.com, under opinions. They have today's date wrong--it's the 3rd, not the 4th.

The weather around here has been fairly miserable. I golfed in 55 degree drizzle yest. I'm mad. Took me all evening to warm up. And yes, I'm headed out for more punishment in a bit.

Dug up my sweet potatoes earlier than normal because the voles were eating them up. Grrr. Next year I'm planting twice as many. Voles don't touch regular potatoes. Not sweet enough. My cabbages all burst open, so I made two batches of slaw to freeze. All ingredients were sliced up by hand (since my sister threw away my "slicer/dicer" machine when she lived with me). I need to buy one. Recommendations?

I see the Chicago Cubs have lost over 100 games this year. So much for a new manager. What losers.

Enjoyed a Chopped episode (Food Ch.) last night with 4 teenagers competing, one only 13 yrs old. They put my efforts to shame. Holy cow!

I'm taking my father with me to some Edward Jones presentation on stocks tonight. Free meal--that's the only reason we're going! If we're lucky, it'll last into the "big debate", and I won't be tempted to watch it. But Dad will get antsy and want to leave early, which if fine with me. He'll make a good excuse for us to exit!

That's all for this episode. Thanks for tuning in.

Immensely! But I overate and paid for it (indigestion). More on that in today's post.

I can't help you with a slicer/dicer machine but I'm on the look-out for my fourth microwave in three years.
Don't play golf in 55 degree drizzle. If you get sick, your sister is going to have to come take care of you and she'll throw out something else.

Who me get sick? Perish the thought! Actually, when I had major colon surgery, she did keep watch over me. That was 9 years ago.

The Red Sox had the worst year under this Bobby Valentine and hope that he is out of here.He sucks. He is stupid as he crashed his bike reading a text from one of the players there.
How stupid is this.No I am not watching the debate as I know who I am voting for.
Randall Smith.

I sign everything "Randall S.". That's my name. I never really liked "Randy" (or any male name that ends in y, like Bobby or Jimmy). Yeah, it's a waste to watch the debates. Obama's the man!

I don't watch NASCAR but I'll be watching for Rmoney to crash and burn.

I don't write to the papers, but I found myself emailing Dear Abby this morning. I don't read the column but Donna does and often tells me about the interesting comments. Couldn't believe that Abby thinks it's OK for a nine-year-old to tell a stranger in a parking lot that she shouldn't smoke.

I skip the advice columns altogether. Another reason I'm canceling my paper subscription (among many). I have no clue as to who "won" the so-called debate (and don't care).

May I suggest that you kill your sister? I can probably come up with a few interesting ways for a busy-body sibling to die...
I don't know if I will watch the debate either. Politicians no longer debate. They stand on the stage and wait for questions that give them an opening to insert their canned speeches.

Oops, I DID mention her! Sorry. Now what methods do you have in mind?!!!!!
reply by solitaire on Oct 4, 2012 4:50 AM ()
Why would I kill my sister? I didn't even mention her in this post. I watched a football game rerun instead of the debate. I flipped over every now and then, but got disgusted. I agree with your assessment.

Golfing in a 55 degree drizzle?? Even if it was a misdemeanor, you'd have an insanity defense!!

I plead guilty. (You knew that was coming, didn't you?)

Nope.

I get those "meal" invitations in the mail almost every week. I haven't ever gone. I don't want to get roped into a big presentation or get on any more calling or mailing lists. The restaurants are all top notch places, though.

The meal was great, presentation short--out in less than two hours! I refused to go with my father because he wouldn't change clothes. He was wearing sweatpants!
