More About Moi

I'm in a rut--writing diary-type posts, but here goes another.

Our hyped-up "snowstorm" amounted to a whopping 2.7 inches. The roads going down to the airport were fine. Coming back was a little dicey (snow squalls). Parking for 1 hr. and 5 minutes cost me $6.00!!! Outrageous. It was because the time went past midnight, into the next "day". I'm still fuming. I got to bed (sleep) by 2 AM, and slept 'til 8:30. I see a nap in my future.

My daughter (eldest) has to return to the states for her optometry "Board review", which assesses her current knowledge in her field. Hopefully, she'll get her license renewed. Being in "backwards" Honduras, she doesn't get updated on all the current medical information. Fingers crossed (Wed.).

She finally admitted her 8 year old daughter has always been a "handfull". I've known it all along. Both parents have been at fault, esp. my SIL (in my opinion). Their 6 yr old son isn't much better. I call it "out of control". I think if I saw them more often, I might have had a greater influence on their behavior. Might have, but doubtful. I'm tougher and more strict. Okay, mean!

Football games (Bears and Colts) today, plus a trip into my Dad's (with Valerie). More later.

So, now that your daughter recognizes there is a problem, is she prepared to take steps to correct it?

Valerie told me that she has "confronted" her husband about ignoring their kids. It upsets her. He doesn't read or play or tuck them in. Shameful. And she knows she hasn't been the disciplinarian she should have been (and be). She's just too sweet natured. Time will tell, regarding their behavior.

Just lately, I have been in a similar mind frame as you - doing the 'Samuel Pepys' waltz, I find it very frustrating (I lead a boring life and end up spreading it around) lol. I prefer to write about a topic.
I agree with being able to help with the control of children if, you are part of their lets say, weekly life at least. Things don't always work out that way though - not necessarily anybodies fault, either, merely 'life'.
I hope you have been able to catch up on your sleep time

Good reference (Pepys). I'm familiar with his diary. I'm about to write a post, and all I can think about is personal things. I need a subject besides religion or politics. Maybe music!

6 bucks sounds cheap to me for parking.... sorry it happened that way though!

Not for 65 minutes, it isn't. I thought the first 30 min. were free, then $2 every half hour after that, up to a certain amount. Oh well, I'm over it.

I'm glad you admitted to being "mean" so I can, too.But I usually cover by saying I'm "strict", as well.

I hope you enjoy your time with your daughter.

Yeah, strict is a better word. I was noted for that when I was a teacher.

Wish I could nap today but it's time to send out the Christmas cards and wrap and mail the out of town gifts.

No cards (or gifts) for me this year. I'm not sure whether that defines me as cheap or lazy or both. I just don't like the stress.

We've had snow also. My weekend off so I didn't mind it...

If I don't have to get out, I don't mind snow. Shoveling it and driving on slick roads are not my favorite things to do.

Glad the snow didn't get in the way of your travel to pick up your daughter. My brother in Wilmette got four inches, but he's near the lake. Parking fees at airports amount to highway robbery. What a racket. Best wishes to your daughter on Wednesday with her recertification. Enjoy your time together.

Thank you. I'm more concerned about her herniated disc (back) surgery she's having Friday, when she returns to Honduras. She's not worried, but I am. Guess that's what parents do.

A busy man there.Have an enjoyable time with daughter.

I've enjoyed my infrequent time with my daughter.
She's a sweetheart. I have 2 more hours with her, as I write this.

What you can do to "transform" unruly children on a once-in-a-while basis is, unfortunately, not going to be very effective. I'm confused: How can your SIL (sister-in-law?) be a problem concerning your grandchildren who live in Honduras? "Both parents" I presume means your daughter and her husband. So how does the SIL fit in the equation?
comment by tealstar on Dec 5, 2010 8:04 AM ()
SIL, as in son in law. That's the trouble with use initials. Because of that, I don't do it very often. Sorry for the confusion.

My SILs are SOBs.
reply by nittineedles on Dec 5, 2010 1:44 PM ()
I think SIL means son in law.

hee I took it as sister in law too and wondered the bloody same then I realised...

We are supposed to get snow later in the week. I would lots rather have
rain but we need moisture terribly. Enjoy your daughter.

We had some good conversation about her kids and husband. Also religious beliefs. I just don't understand how such an intelligent girl believes the way she does. Don't worry, I didn't "put her down". It's simply faith vs. reason.
