Jimmy C

I'm just about finished reading Jimmy Carter's "An Hour Before Daylight", an autobiography of our former president's childhood. It's an interesting insight into life on a Georgia farm and the events that shaped Carter's adult life.

I remember how hopeful and elated I was when he was elected president. I just knew he was an honest and intelligent politician, a rare combination.

I think he's gotten a bad rap over the years, mostly due to his "malaise" speech (in which he spoke the truth). I won't review all of Carter's accomplishments while president, but there were many.

Many other good presidents came from humble beginnings--Lincoln, Grant, Truman, Clinton, and even Obama. They knew what it was like to be poor (a 47%er!).

His childhood life brought back many memories for me. It makes me want to write about mine, however UNmemorable they were!

Cindi Lauper was on Anderson Live plugging her new book. According to her, every one of us has a book inside us. We have all had interesting things happen to us along the way.

So when does your book come out? Actually, I've already written my autobio. I left details out, however. That's next.

Never followed him.Even though he was honest but sense he was weak and not as strong.
His platform was not all that great. But he was a democrat and just about it.
Glad that he only served on term.

As a child, he was a "pleaser", always wanting to do right, esp. for his father. I think it carried over into his presidency.

My main memory of Carter is not a good one: letting all the Cuban criminals into Florida. It had a major negative impact on the state.

And I didn't vote for his re-election because of after the hostage crisis, he still approved of importing oil from Iran. That griped me. (I voted for John Anderson.)

I always liked Carter and thought of him as honest although I don't know that much about his life. Sounds like something else to get a round to reading.

Like anything else, I'm never sure about recommending a book. But I enjoyed it.

I wasn't paying attention when Carter was president. I certainly did not find him charismatic. But he was a Democrat and I don't believe in Republican-anythings, so I voted for him.

I voted for him the first time, John Anderson the second ( had my reasons.).
