Frost on the Pumpkin

It's way too early, but low and behold, we've had our first frost.
I covered up the tomato plants the last two nights. They're the most sensitive. An even earlier frost nipped them.

Between football games this weekend, I got my work and walk/jogs in. On yesterday's walk, I found a fence row full of wild grapes. They were delicious. I'm thinking about "juicing" them, perhaps making some wine. But it's a lot of work. Plus it takes a lot of sugar. Decisions, decisions.

An easier edible food to prepare are wild mushrooms. I'm no expert, but I've recently found and eaten several puffballs and a "cauliflower", originally thought to be a "turkey tail" mushroom. I looked it up to confirm identification. A wrong choice, and it's curtains! They were delicious, and I survived.

Busy week ahead, so I may be "out of mybloggers town" for a few days. Be well and take care.

Juice from wild grapes is the best. It just takes so many grapes because they are so tiny.

Small, but mighty. My juice is currently fermenting, hopefully. We'll see how it goes, then return to the scene of the crime for more. I smashed them with a baseball bat. Seemed to work.

Today's the day I make juice. Then the wait for fermentation. But don't expect a bottle!

I am afraid of wild mushrooms. What if I'm wrong?

I know the feeling. The first times I tried a new wild mushroom, I was scared to death--no pun intended!

I thought you liked Utah snows. No? Maybe it's the cold.

Me too.

Yet, they're so good for you.

I'm so afraid of mushrooms, I don't even think of trying to eat wild ones.

Surprisingly, most mushrooms are safe to eat. Like snakes and spiders, only a few can kill you. Yet, we kill them all, just to be "safe".
