I know you're probably sick of me in my "serious" mode, but I have more to say on "the way things are" in the U.S.
Two more "installments", including this one, a "catch-all.
What else is wrong with America? Plenty, if you ask me.
Our education system stinks. (This coming from an ex public school teacher.) How can we say otherwise when our students rank at the bottom of most world "exams", or when they flunk simple questionaires? I heard one adult say on TV that he thought Paul Revere rode his horse during WWII !!! He didn't know why he was riding a horse.
You've heard the saying, "You'll always get what you've always got if you always do what you've always done." Well, that's it in a nutshell. Our educational system needs a drastic overhaul, period. I'm just starting a book, "Waiting For Superman", about our schools. I'll let you know what suggestions the author makes.
They may or may not be related to education, but the United States has major problems with drug use and abuse.
Our overall health is an issue--we eat, smoke and drink too much (and not exercise enough). We're a nation of Pillsbury doughboys (and tee hee about it).
Poverty is all around us, whether it's a result of a poor economy (unemployment) or low wages or mismanaging money . The rich get richer, the poor poorer, the "middle class" sinking deeper in debt. Foreclosures, credit card insolvency, inflation, no savings--all problems many Americans experience.
We have bizarre gun laws, oppose population control, restrict and pick on immigrants, bash gay people, are religiously intolerant, commit countless crimes, and believe Rush Limbaugh is a god.
Now, the question is, what do we do about it all? Stay tuned.
