Dec. 30 Garden

Here it is, December 30th, two days before a new year, and I'm still taking greens (and more) out of my garden!

It's been a warm "winter" thus far, except for a few sub-twenty days (but not as warm as Oklahoma, CJ!).

So, I'm still harvesting arugula (lettuce), chard, kale, Brussels sprouts (huge!), even collards. The last of the broccoli was picked a couple of days ago.

Non-greens include beets, carrots, parnsips, even radishes. I have a pile of leaves and pine needles ready to cover the in-ground vegetables when cold weather strikes, if ever.

Below freezing temperatures are necessary if my daughter and SIL's house-to-move is to occur. It's been lifted off the original foundation and ready to move the one mile to the site to be occupied. We just need frozen ground.

On a related subject, we're meeting with the lawyers today to deed 20 acres of my farm to them for their sustainable food operation. Things are progressing. I don't wish to bore you with details--just being informative. If mybloggers will permit me, I'll add a photo to my gallery of the house they're moving. Check it out.
Later.

Love your pictures. That is one big house that they are moving. I love old farmhouses. They were really built to last, unlike today's houses.

You answered my question. I checked out the progress of the house moving yest. In order to lift it off the foundation they've had to sledge hammer their way through gigantic cemented glacier rocks. The basement is only partial, crawl space needing to be dug out for the I-beams. No wonder they're charging $15k to move a house only one mile.

It was almost 60 here yesterday. It is in the middle 40s now. I will be sending this weather to you tomorrow. So once again, no frozen ground. Our grass is still green. We have never had such a fall and winter. Did they put in a foundation for the house at the new site? Dig a basement?

First, let me answer a question you asked in a previous post: I can walk in circles in my basement--no treadmill (I do have a stationary bike, but seldom use it--don't like sitting).
We're (they're) going to to dig a basement hole and set a foundation in preparation for the house. (Did you see the photo?) Maybe this coming week.
I need my own yard to freeze because the moles are having a field day!

Randy, you never bore me believe me.I envy all the things that you are getting out of your garden. We have been snow less so far.Ski country are crying right now.
The cold weather is helping them to make snow.

You don't ski anyway, but I realize the economic impact on the state is great. I forgot to mention I'm down to my final cherry tomatoes that ripened in the basement.

I am so glad your daughter will be nearby. I think that sounds fantastic. How much land do you own? We need at least 25 acres to start our kennel for noise reasons, which makes sense. It's just hard to find that much land in the suburbs of DC.
I love that you are still getting veggies out of your garden. Wonderful!!!

The farm totals 120 ac. Plenty of room for barking dogs (which I hate)!
Since I'll probably "will" the whole farm to them, gifting them 20 acres is no big deal. Now is when they need it, not in 32 years (when I'm 100).

I drove past a golf course. There were pins with flags in the holes.

Even if it got up to 60, I wouldn't play. Too soggy. Besides, once I put away my clubs for the winter, that's it. When I went to Florida, I refused to take them.

Feels like March! Love it that your garden is still producing! Happy harvesting! The jet stream is moving, so colder weather may be coming soon....

Beginning Sunday, it's downhill. To be expected. This has been bonus weather.
