Candlemas Day

I refuse to honor the groundhog. Instead, I'm giving attention to the more ancient Feb 2nd Candlemas Day.
I'll repeat what I've posted on previous CDs (from my grandmother):
"Candlemas Day, Candlemas Day,
Half the wood, half the hay."

Meaning, of course, that winter is half over, and that you'd better have an equal amount left compared to what has been used thus far.
You'll have to google the history. Not my job.
And, for the record, I'm NOT watching Groundhog Day, the movie, again. It's the same thing over and over! (a funny)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I had charge of my grandson, Jonny, yesterday (28 mo). He's talking up a storm. Great kid. When his mother came to pick him up (and stayed for supper), she informed me she's 3 months pregnant! Yippee! If you remember, she miscarried her last one. So, she's a little nervous.
Good timing, though. Her 3 day work week is being cut to 2 (they have about 4 dental hygienists all working part time), so she's quitting in 3 months to work on the farm, have the baby, then maybe find another job in 2013. We'll see.

Super Bowl week weather has been great. So, right after I posted about "the need to get out", I've been getting out! Jogging, walking, even yard work (sticks, leaves, wood).
It's been up near 60 degrees and sunny. The Candlemas mantra isn't true this year, for sure. One problem, the ground isn't frozen, so Nate and Emily's house can't be moved (across fields) as planned. I'm sorta hoping it'll turn frigid this month--one week only.

One more thing: I have a blind date for lunch tomorrow (Fri)!
Details to follow.

I have not been here in so long I feel like I'm intruding by making a comment. Congratulations on the new upcoming grandbaby. Hope everything goes well and she has an easy pregnancy. My grandson is 5 months old and he is just adorable. This has been a very strange "winter" here in Georgia. The high yesterday was 75; bugs are gonna eat us alive this summer unless we have a cold snap. I must be in the minority because I cannot stand the move Groundhog Day.

Well, hello Nancy! You're right, it's been a long time. Notice, I de-friended you because of your AWOL-ness. But yes, things are happening around here. Life goes on. Hope all is well.

So you just slipped in that little tidbit about the lunch date. Thought we wouldn't notice?

Ground Hog Day is one of my favorite movies. Nice to see you are dipping your toe in the water again ... let us know how your date goes.

Woodstock Il where they filmed the movie Groundhog Day is not too far from me. They have a big celebration there every year on 2/2. I keep thinking I should go one of these years. The house where Bill Murray stayed is a B& B. It is a nice town.

Interesting! I actually liked the movie. Watched it again on TV last year. The worse part is the alarm clock music of Sonny and Cher--over and over. Like the movie "Pleasantville", Groundhog Day is done with a twist. I come away with new insights. I'll spare you as what those insights are.

Sorry,we do not need any more.
The population is getting too big.Should limit them how many that they should have.
Like just two or one.My theory.

I had 4 children. Collectively, they will have 4 kids. Zero population growth!
Not to worry my friend.

Best wishes to you daughter! I'm celebrating Candlemas, with candles of course. It partly cloudy/partly sunny, and I do see my shadow, as groundhog Phil did, but this year all bets are off about what the weather will do. Enjoy your date!

I only use candles when the power goes out. And thanks.

Congrats to you and your daughter!!! I do not want the cold, but I understand the reason that you do. I like that, half the wood half the hay. I haven't heard that before.

Average speaking, the days are not only getting longer, but warmer! Yippee. I'm figuring the other shoe will drop. Ugh.
