Memories we hold on to
Some fondly, some with regret
Some we try harder to remember
Others we want to forget.
People that pass through our life
Some with disdain, others with love
Some that are still with us
Others looking down from above.
Simple things we remember
Smell of fresh grass, falling rain
A kiss, a hug
First loves pain.
A walk along the beach
Sharing a sunset
A warm hand to hold
Love without regret.
Loving someone
Who loves you back
Watching a sunrise
Emerging from a night of black.
Sharing a slow dance
Maybe a glass of wine
Or sitting by a fire doing nothing
And having it be just fine.
Enjoying a winter day
Walking in new fallen snow
Just walking
With no particular place to go.
Watching the earth reborn
With the coming of spring
The beginning of life
And all it has to bring.
The summer soon follows
Barefoot walks in the creek
Watching children at night
And the fireflies they seek.
All too soon
Summer give way to fall
When the moon hangs low
Like a large orange ball.
We need to remember
Simple pleasures come and go
But friendships, loves, and memories
Will be the things I treasure so.
