As I woke that morning for a couple of minutes I couldn't remember exactly where I was, but soon I was reminded. I felt like someone was staring at me, and when I turned over sure enough I was right. 3 sets of eyes were studying me as if I were a science project, I managed a "good morning" before Sue Bee started in. "We weren't going to do nothing to you", Sue Bee said, "We were wondering if you were still alive, because Granny said you can be here today..and then poof", Sue Bee said. "Well trust me I am still alive and breathing, with no plans to go poof", I said with a laugh. "Sue Bee, Lenny, Jody', Laura's voice rang out. "Will you leave that man alone, let him breathe", as she continued, "I am so sorry, you'd think we'd never had company before". I grinned and said "That's okay, just not use to being the object of such attention". "Well as long as you're awake I bet you could go for a cup of coffee?", Laura said. "I haven't had a cup of coffee in a couple of days", I said.."I've been really missing it too". Laura said "Well I have some, can't guarantee the quality..but it is hot". Laura and I sat at the kitchen table sipping coffee and the kids were plunked down in front of the tv, I was good just to sit and talk with someone for a change. "So I guess you'll be moving on Josh", Laura said, her voice quavered. "I'm not quite sure, after seeing the town I'm not quite sure there would be many job opportunities", I said. Laura went on, "No there isn't much left of the town, and the businesses here I don't know how they get by". I said "Still you never know, I wouldn't mind staying in one place for awhile..after all it has been some time since I put down some roots". We looked at each other for what seemed like an eternity, just then a knock came at the door. Laura said, "Who could that be this early in the morning?". Laura got up and answered the door, and in waddled this woman, I swear she must of been the half the size of a VW Bug. "I'm sorry Laura", the woman said, "But I'd like a word with your friend if I could". Laura said, "Sure Harriet, come on in, have a cup of coffee..sit a spell". "Thanks Laura, your an angel dear", said Harriet. Laura said, "Josh this is Harriet Vosher, she's what you would call the manager here at Whispering Brook". I stood up and smiled, "Ma'am it's a pleasure meeting you", I said. "Well Laura the reason I stopped by is to see what your friends plans were, and if he was planning to stick around awhile?", Harriet said. Laura looked at her, "Why do you need to know that for Harriet?". Well Harriet continued, "If he was planning on staying I'd like to offer him some work, can't pay a lot and can't offer any place to stay..but I could use a hand fixing up the place". Laura asked, "Fixing up?, now, why?". "Well", Harriet continued,"Mr Pasney, the owner of the park got a bunch of citations from the state on the condition of the place", "So he thought it'd be cheaper to fix things then to pay the fines, and he know with the park in this shape he'd never be able to sell it". I looked at Harriet and said,"Can I think about it and let you know later today?". "Oh sure", Harriet said, "Just let me know soon..okay?".
