Aside from the weather
Which was cold and rainy
It seemed a perfect time
For a long Fall stroll.
He wasn't in the mood for
thinking
Wasn't looking for company
He craved solitude
Alone is what he wanted to be.
It wasn't a long term desire
He did not want to be on his own
But as for today, right now
He'd rather spend it alone.
The leaves of many colors
Had hit their peak and now past
Thoughts of an approaching
winter
Knowing nothing was meant to last.
He knew sacrifice
Love had, lost love
But those thoughts were fleeting
As he stared at the gray skies
above.
He needed this moment
His soul and spirit spent
But he sought not forgiveness for
his life
For he was not the kind to repent.
Each moment of his life
Was spent looking ahead
He had no use for hindsight
Plenty of time for that when he was
dead.
In the distance
He saw his front porch light
A fireplace, glass of wine
Awaited him there tonight.
Soon he was in the comfort
Of his humble abode
Sheltered from the outside
Where it was rainy and cold.
