The Audacity of Hope.

It is with a certain degree of sorrow that I admit that we have lost the audacity that all of us celebrated who shared  the vision that our President had when he spoke so eloquently of transforming this country and bringing it squarely into the 21st Century.
He had a moment, much like that glorious moment of Camelot, but it slipped through his fingers, becoming mired in the distrust, the bias, the bigotry, and the lies of his opposition.
And somehow he could not rise above them to proclaim his message for a better America...an America where the wealthy would pay their fair share, where every American would purchase reasonable health care, where everyone would cherish and care for our world,  where unemployment would fade away, where our Seniors would not live in fear of having their Social Security and their Medicare stripped away.
Now, that "audacity of hope"  flickers ever dimmer as we approach the battle to finally have a budget for 2011.  In spite of the fact that the administration has already offered to cut 50 billion from the budget,  the insatiable opposition says that isn't nearly enough.  They want twice that much.
Even sadder, I fear our President is not strong enough to stand up to them and tell them to go to hell.
These greedy leeches will continue sucking the lifeblood from the Middle Class while demanding all the tax breaks for the wealthy until I fear we will be no more.

Good comment there. He did stand up to them with the health care plan.
He said"Put Up or Shut Up"this is a start.
The house speaker is a joke and troublesome.
Obama will be fine.He will pick up steam in the last two years.
I strongly will vote for him.Huckabee is a yo you.He try to pull so many stringsDo not give up on him.He will shine soon.

I hope so, Fredo. We need him to come on strong these last two years.

I have hope because new jobs are opening up and the looming depression has been avoided. When I bought my first house, there were stringent income requirements but the mortgage companies went wild and now there are a
lot of foreclosed houses. I still will vote for Obama. Huckabee was
quoted as saying his Kenysian father and grandfather influenced him. It
was my impression that they pretty much abandoned him and his early life
was a struggle. This is just some of the crap going around.

Everytime Huckabee opens his mouth, he gets his foot stuck in it. I will also vote for Obama for a second term. The LAST thing I want is for some nutcase tea party candidate to get elected President.

I don't blame Obama. Between the massive opposition that he faced and the economy that he inherited, I think he has done remarkably well. I know in my heart that the Tea Party folks oppose him because he is black- but that is something that will never be voiced openly.

I know they do also. There are people on Blogster cursing him the day he took office. Quite honestly, I just wish he would stand up to all of them and tell them to get on the bandwagon or get out of his way. I hate seeing him give them anything. He compromised on the health care reform, gave them everything they asked for, and still not one single Republican voted for it. Now, they are doing everything within their power to block funding for it and even to repeal it. I simply cannot stand the tea party. Scott Walker in Wisconsin is a perfect example of a tea party member. They are nothing but a bunch of little Hitlers who want to rule like Stalin. And they call the Democrats Communist.

While I'm of the "Give 'em hell, Harry" frame of mind, I praise Obama's patience and willingness to compromise/cooperate. But there is a limit to this plan. And it's easy for the Ed Shultzes and Rachel Maddows of our country to push for a fight (like ring-siders saying "kill him!"). Let's just leave our president alone for awhile and give him a chance to do his thing. (But a good punch in the nose for John Bayner, etc. would feel good!)

In politics one person trying to do the right thing is an uphill climb, and I think that was a lesson our President is learning. There must be a certain level of cooperation to attain certain parts of both agendas, without that you create an atmosphere of distrust and gridlock. I think that this is the trap a lot of politicians fall into, you can promise anything you want...but delivering it is (as the driver says in the Wizard of Oz says)"is a horse of a different color".

He did not stand up when he should have to both the Republicans and his own party--he turned into a wimp--and it hurts to say that!

I'm not giving up hope. Mind you, I'm realistic about the chances of any kind of success, but if the election was tomorrow, I'd vote for Obama again. I think of it as the audacity of loyalty.

Yes, the truth is, that with all his flaws, he is still the only game in town if you care about this country.

I too would and will vote for him again. I wouldn't vote for a Republican after the stunts they have pulled and continue to pull these last two years.

I have my moments of genuine despair lately, too....

I want to be positive, but I just wish he would tell the tea party and the Republicans to take it and stick it where the sun doesn't shine. They will bully him just as long as he lets them.

I am going to continue to hope that Pres Obama does have the guts and the will to do what is right regardless of the consequences. It's a tough job but it will prove that he cares for the real issues and not about getting re-elected.

My fingers are also crossed, Maria.
