Just got home from my third 12 hour shift and my back is tired, my eyes quit focusing and I think my hair is wilting. But hey...it beats working! I am off for four days now. Whoo-hoo!
During the middle of the night when my patients are blissfully sleeping and my co-worker and I have time to chat....well, sometimes we get a case of the "sillies". We do our own version of old movies. Last night's feature was "Young Frankenstein" (remember Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman?) I got to be Marty!! I can cross one eye while the other remains normal. It is a gift to be able to move body parts in ways that cause other people to stop in their tracks and not know whether to run or call 911. Anyway...I'd cross the one eye, drop a shoulder to resemble a hump on my back and do the "...what hump?" line. We knew the whole movie line by line. Our PCT (patient care tech) was a young man about 21 or so. He just kept looking at us like we had a third eye or something. Poor guy. Never knew what old movies he has missed.
Given enough coffee and the wee hours of the night we have to entertain ourselves. So while you all are sleeping peacefully in your beds try not to have nightmares about nurses and what they do for entertainment on "night shift"!
Maybe next week we will do some old TV series. My partner in crime care can be Ethel and I'll be Lucy! Or maybe Andy and Barney. Nothing stupid like the Cleaver family or the boring "Father knows Best"....ugh!! Nope. Give me the characters who were not afraid to be just a little different. I can see myself as Annie Oakley or Belle Starr or Belle Watling or of course my favorite: Katie Scarlett O'Hara!! It could take us the full three nights to do "Gone With The Wind". In my version Rhett would never even think of leaving me! Honey, he would be at my feet begging to stay! HA! I do go on, don't I?
I heard my bed announce time for a few hours of sleep. Hubby is off to work so it's just Lucy the spoiled chihuahua and me.
This time next week I'll be south bound and way past Hotlanta on my way to the sun/surf/sand!!
Yawn. Scratch and stretch...I gotta head off for a while. I'm beginning to see Sadam Hussian and the Care Bears dancing on the table...I must be sleepy!
