Snow?

J just went out to buy some milk and he said that he's sure it's gonna snow today. In the time that it took him to walk across the street, his fingers and ears were freezing. (Just the other day we were wearing light sweaters outside.) He also pointed out that the whole sky is smothered in grey. Whoo!

Not that I love mountains of snow more than a warm sandy beach, but I just can't get into the holiday spirit if there isn't a blanket of that sparkly white stuff on the ground. And given that it's exactly one month before Christmas, today would be an ideal day for a little snow, don't you think?

Oh, speaking of which, today is also my dad's birthday... I should probably give the man a call. I'm thinking that maybe I'll finally tell him that I love him, if I can manage to spit it out. No promises though. It's much easier said than done.

This has been a good year for dad and I. Our relationship has forever been spotty at best - but things are changing, I think...

Of course, I'll have to save that post for another day.

I stopped driving in snow December 16, 1980 when I almost killed myself and my two and a half kids by hitting black ice under the snow and almost sliding off a cliff. Cold weather's OK but I do miss white Christmases.

I love snow. However, I am not very fond of cold weather. too bad nobody can figure out a way to let it snow in the Bahamas.
As for your dad, I understand your feelings completely. The parent that I have a hard time with is my mom. She's the one who beat me and humiliated me as all while I was growing up. As an adult, I realize that she has a mental illness, and I've forgiven her, but I would just as soon not be around her.
However, I call her on her birthday and holidays, and I feel better about ME when I do it. (In other words, I don't actually do it for her; I do it for me.)
