Personal Safety

Last night the pet sitting meeting was all about personal safety. I left that meeting quite paranoid. The cop who was talking to us was really cool and said that he's not telling us what to do, just telling us what can happen when we do what we want to do.

He had some great advice though.

One girl in the group was thinking the same as me - I have 2 dogs who would scare off any intruder, right? The officer said that it's certainly a deterrent, but not a guarantee. Interesting. But I never worry when I am home with them. He also said not to just yell at the dog to shut up when they bark at a window or door (I am an offender on this) and instead to get up and look no matter how often your dog barks. I would certainly get my exercise! haha

He also recommended a personal safety class. I learned that at the end of the class you get to beat up a police officer (they come at you while you aren't ready for them to see how you'll react) so just think of the satisfaction for all those parking tickets.... hehe No but really, it was a great class and it gave me LOTS to think about.

I always hate going to those pet sitting meetings. Everyone seems to know everyone and I somehow ALWAYS end up sitting in between people who are good friends so I kinda just sit there and eavesdrop and hope I can jump in the conversation. Social awkwardness aside, I always learn alot. :0)

Tonight is the bar with my friend. I am excited. I hope I don't pull an R and stay out too late though! Luckily, I can't get caught even if I do cuz R hasta work overnight on a server at work. Poor dude!

I can't wait for the weekend. I don't know if I mentioned that. Happy Thursday everyone!

Hope you had a great night. If you ever get to, watch "It Takes a Thief" on the Discovery channel and you'll see how thieves handle dogs. It's amazing and I realized that my dogs are NOT watch dogs. I don't think I have one that would actually guard us if someone gave them a bone!

Enjoy your evening with friends. Ugh! Working all night on a server is not my idea of a fun way to stay up all night. The dog-sitting class sounds interesting. I'm sure the friendly policeman covered every possible scenario that COULD go wrong. Why is it that policemen always try to scare people to death?

That is a good idea. They do not bark to aggrivate you.
There is a reason for this and check them out
Never can tell that at time this will save your life.
check it out and give them a good boy command.

I should really look into taking a self defense class. I don't know if I could fend off an attacker. But I do know I could scream at a pitch that would split the attackers ear drums.

What a great class to give to pet sitters.

Have fun tonight!!! Lots and Lots of FUN!

I thought about you on my Leadership class Tuesday. We went to an Organic Farm that I know you would have loved. Got some really great information and posted some of the info on my blog. I think a self defence class is good for everyone...just a little more added protection

I try to get the same message across to Donna about not telling the boyz to be quiet when they bark at something outside, even if we know what it is. Once a month it's the gas-man, sometimes I never know. But on the other hand, there could have been times when they ran somebody off and we don't know it! So, I don't want to teach them not to bark since barking might be just the right thing to do someday!
