School starts Monday:
So. It’s about freakin’ time, but I have enrolled in school once again. My aim is two fold. First is my Major/Minor which is Medical Assisting and Pharmacy Tech. The deal is that I can get my Pharm Tech in about 6 months or less and then go to work part time and keep on with the Med Assist classes until I get the Associates Degree (all but one class for Pharm Tech directly transfers into Med Assisting). Then I can get a job in a medical office doing admitting or drawing blood or any one of a dozen jobs in a medical office.
The ultimate goal is to keep on going to school and eventually get my Occupational Therapy bachelors degree. So by getting the med assist degree I can (hopefully) get a job in an Occupational Therapy office and get more and more experience in that field.
Anyway I did some placement testing yesterday. Apparently I can type about 25 words per minute, which for me is pretty good. I had some difficulties with the keyboard because I do all my typing on my laptop here at home and the keyboard is laid out a bit differently than a full size keyboard is. But I figured I did pretty good for an old “hunt & peck”-er. (Yes I just re-read that line and I’m gonna let it stand as-is.)
I go back today to take care of my financial aid so I can pay for all of this. The books are gonna have to come out of our pockets though, so I hope that isn’t gonna beat us down too much.
The only really bad thing about going back to school is the fact that the college is about 30 miles away. Now that won’t be too bad in the summer because I can ride the motorcycle, but it will get expensive if I have to drive the car too much. And the classes will be 4 days a week also. But it’s 20 miles to the local State University, and 25 miles to the Community College, so no matter where I was going to go it would cost me a bunch of gas.
What I like about this place is the fast semesters. Each semester is only 10 or 11 weeks, which is 2-3 weeks shorter than the standard college. This way we can wedge in an extra semester each year.
Good News, Bad News:
Good news is that the guy who owns the property to our west is getting married. Hell, I didn’t even know he was dating someone. Actually M and I thought he might have been “in the closet” just because we have never seen him in the company of a female. He’s one of those “good ole boys” that always wears a work shirt with his name on it and either a John Deere or a CAT hat and a bit of a pot-belly. We just figured he had to be hiding a bit if he never had a girlfriend around. And I mean NEVER! In the four years we’ve known him, not once did we ever see a female friend with him at church or out in public nor has he ever mentioned dating someone.
Well, last weekend he was up here looking at the old house he owns on the property next door. This place has been empty for many years and has no electricity or running water going to it. This makes it the perfect house to live next to. (for us).
Well, he comes right out and says that he’s getting married and introduces me to his future father-in-law.
Now the Bad News. He has decided to gut out the old house and remodel it over the next 8 months and live in it once he’s married in January 2010.
So you know how I like to keep going on and on about how we live on the side of a mountain with no neighbors? Well, now we are going to have a neighbor and we’re going to lose a lot of the privacy we have up here.
So no more having sex on the back deck or in the yard. No more running around in the house naked being silly. Now we will have to start keeping the blinds closed in our house because we will never know when someone will come up the drive. Sheesh! This is gonna suck.
Well that’s it. I need to get moving and motivated and do some stuff around the house today before I head off to the college.
