Dunno What to Call This One:

27 Mar 2009 Friday

Gun class:

Well this week was the hand gun safety class. We had a pretty good group of folks. One young guy (I say young guy ‘cause he was younger than me) had to have help with the test. We didn’t get into specifics but he has problems with reading and test taking in general. So I had to read the test to him and go over the questions and answers (multiple choice test) with him usually several times. He’d get flustered because some of the questions and answers were fairly long and drawn out and it would confuse him.

So I would usually skip one that would befuddle him and go on to the next one. Every once in a while we’d break down the question into smaller parts so it would be easier. You know those “which of these is a TRUE statement?”

I told him that when we began I would not give him the answers, but I would do everything I could to have him answer the questions him self. I even went so far as to let him answer some questions wrong, mark it on the test and then correct him. I told him the right answer only after the test. I couldn’t let it be said I wasn’t fair about it. The questions he got wrong were the ones that he answered confidently, so that’s what I marked. As it was, out of 50 questions, he only got two wrong. Not bad. I think I got one or two wrong when I took the test myself back in January.

We’re supposed to go to the range today and tomorrow, but I can only go tomorrow. I have my bowling league tonight and that starts at 6pm and the class is going to be at the range at 5pm. So I’ll swing by the range about 445 and drop off the safety glasses and the box of ear plugs I have in the car and then scoot on out to the bowling alley.

Poison Ivy:

It’s a bit better right now. My right forearm had swelled up pretty bad, not just in the affected areas, but the whole thing so I was a bit concerned about that. I can pinch the skin again on my wrist when before the skin was so tight I couldn’t. The effected areas are still pretty raw but most of the worst seems to be behind me right now.

I did discover something interesting though. Instead of using calamine lotion I just used regular skin lotion to keep the itching down. I found that as the skin would swell it would get stretched and that would make it itch. And also when the icky liquid would seep out and dry it would make it itch too. So I would spread on the Jergans lotion and keep the skin soft and pliable and it helped a lot!

Tonight at the bowling alley I will have both forearms wrapped in gauze and I’ll be wearing a long sleeve shirt over it. I gotta tell ya, it still looks nasty.

Doing a bit of reading:

Has anyone read the “House of Night” series by PC Cast and Kristin Cast? M had gotten hooked on the series a few months ago and finally got the latest book last week (that makes five in the series so far). Well, I’m a much faster reader than M, plus I have all of this time on my hands right now also, so I waited for her to finish the whole series before I would start.

It has happened in the past where we would pick up a series of 4 books and M would get to the fourth book before I would start the first and then I’d get stuck waiting for her to finish the fourth book so that I could get into it!

Well anyway, I started the series on Monday and I finished the fifth book yesterday afternoon. It was pretty good I have to say, even though it is from a 16-17 year old girls perspective.

Well I think that’s about it for today…
