Last week I finally got fed up with my sinus and allergy issues and went to my doctor for some advise and maybe some medication. You see for the last two or three months I have been fighting my allergies and to tell the truth, they were winning.
But I just thought they were especially bad this year. Turns out I had a sinus infection... for about two or three months. The Nurse Practitioner asked me if I have been having headaches I said, "Sure. Nearly every day for a few weeks." And she told me that from what she could see, my sinuses were completely blocked and she was amazed I wasn't in more pain.
Turns out I was in a lot of pain, just didn't know it. Over the years I have had to have sinus surgery once back in 2003 and infections at least once a year since I was about 6 years old. As it stands now, I will likely be have sinus surgery again within a few years. But back to the pain.
The infection came on so slowly that as the pain built I just got used to it. And it wasn't until I woke up Saturday afternoon and found the pressure gone from my face, that I realized how good it feels to have no pain!
On top of that, I realized just how much the pain was affecting me. I sleep much better now since my breathing is better and I can actually rest without pain. Sleeping better has lead to a better attitude and less anger in general. I think I've even lost some weight because I can smell and taste food again without stuffing myself. (I had been going to the gym for several weeks and was getting frustrated by not losing any weight) But now I can control my portions much better since I can taste again.
Speaking of smells: I thought this spring was pretty boring because I had not "smelled spring". You know, that one day in the spring when you can actually smell the green things growing? Well. Now I can. I never noticed so many things because I couldn't smell them.
But now I smell the flowers blooming, the rain on the wind, even the cow poop when I pass the dairy farm down the road.
Life ain't too bad right now, except for the fact I have worked 10 days straight. I was expecting to work all this weekend too, but supposedly we are getting a three day weekend after all (the plant is supposed to close for Good Friday also). Just don't see when we'll get another day off in the future....
Well I'm goin to lunch.
