The new Indiana Jones movie made 311 million dollars worldwide over the three day weekend. It also cleaned up on opening night last Thursday, so the total take as of this morning was somewhere around 350 million. That's worth a lot more than the crystal skull, anyway you look at it!
I always wait until the first week has passed before I venture into a big movie. Tuesday night is best for me, now that HOUSE is on Mondays. Also, I go to the latest show so I don't have to listen to screaming children. (I like children, but I believe silence is golden in theaters, especially now that a ticket costs more than a decent meal.)
On the other hand, if the movie doesn't grab me in the ads, I wait for the DVD. Now that DVDs are going to go the way of the Stegosaurus, I will probably have to get one of those new machines, BLU-Ray or whatever they call them. It's just one more way for the Japanese to get our cash.
What the heck was wrong with DVDs, anyway? They never messed up. they never had to be rewound...
Next thing you know we'll have to run out and buy some new machine in order to remain on the Internet. Think of all the cash they would make if they changed that!
Back to the movie...
Harrison Ford must keep making the I-J flicks. He is a credit to all of us aging men who can't crack a whip without leaving a big welt on our legs. I hope he keeps going. I would like to see him in one more Star Wars movie, too.
Big news:
Tomorrow at 4 p.m. I am getting my bi-monthly haircut. It is so long they could make a decent wig out of what gets to the floor. I am beginning to look like I had just stepped out of the 60's.
I have been painting a gang of canvasses. Most are small... really tiny: 8 x 10, 9 x 12, etc. It is easier to find frames for the small ones. Saturday I went over to Goodwill and the St. Vincent de Paul stores here and found a ton of deep-rabbet small frames. (Rabbet means the groove cut like and "L" shape where the painting slips in behind the frame. Canvasses need a deep-rabbet, so photo frames don't work.) I paid $3.25 for four at the Goodwill and another buck for two frames at St. V.
Before my hair appointment tomorrow I will do the St. V. shop over in Fostoria where my hair girl works.
Custom frames cost too much. I also look over the closeout ready-made frames when I go to Hobby Lobby. Sometimes there are bargains. I always carry my tape measure on these forays. One time I was looking over frames at Wal-Mart. Nothing I could use. When I walked out the door a security guy stopped me and asked if I forgot to pay for something.
"No," I said.
"You put a measuring tape in your jacket pocket," he said.
I pulled it out and he could see how beat up it was, and he apologized and let me go.
I must look like a shoplifter when my hair is too long.
