Ringo is Going Incognito ...

Former Beatle Ringo Starr will no longer sign memorabilia for fans and will throw away all fan mail he receives in the future, he has said.

"Please do not send fan mail to any address you have," he said in a video message on his website.

"Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October. If that is the date on the envelope, it's gonna be tossed.

"I'm warning you with peace and love I have too much to do," the 68-year-old drummer said.

Dressed in black clothes and dark glasses, Starr said it was "a serious message to everybody watching".

He added: "No more fan mail and no objects to be signed. Nothing."

Starr, who released his most recent album Liverpool 8 in January, recently completed a tour of the US and Canada.

The musician currently divides his time between Los Angeles, the South of France and his UK home in Surrey.

In April, a foliage sculpture of Starr outside a train station in Liverpool was beheaded by vandals.

The performer had reportedly angered some locals when he told the BBC's Jonathan Ross he missed nothing about the city.

..............

I wish I could tell something like this to my creditors!

I was surprised to hear that he was actually still signing stuff that came in the mail... I think after so many years catering to his fans, then man deserves a little peace.

Loved the Beatles era, treasure the music, but Ringo went incognito for me long ago.

I still have an unopened (still in the plastic) original-release Sgt. Pepper album. I saw one on eBay for $1200. Anyone want it for $600?

Musicians sell music, not themselves. If everyone who ever heard a Beatles song and liked it wanted 30 seconds of time with their favorite Beatle, they would have to live to be over one hundred years before they were done. And that's not counting time for bathroom breaks, meals, sleep, or sex.

My younger sister loved the Beatles long before I'd ever heard of them, and I was slow to warm to them. But I enjoy and like much of their work. I think people may have unrealistic expectations about what musicians and other famous people owe them.

Robert Anson Heinlein wrote in "Grumbles From the Grave, Letter and papers published posthumously," something very much like: "We live in a wild area, and I have been using my fan mail to act as landfill for the low places on the grounds the last three years. They still come at the rate of about 2,000 pieces a day. Back when postcards were a five cent stamp, it was possible to reply to them, but the avalanche never stopped." And it didn't. His widow received mail addressed to him for years after he died.
Everybody wanted a piece of him. Come on folks, each of us only have so much to give away, then we deserve a break.

Wow, U am surprised at the negative comments. I would think the man should finally be allowed to be left alone. Everyone does not deserve a piece of him he gave them that in the form of entertainment.

sometimes fans can be obnoxious but not signing autographs or answering fan letters is a bit snotty. I guess since he's a rock legend he feels he has a right to be a complete a--hole.

I was out and about during the Beatles madness and ignored them as much as I could because of my aversion to a great deal of popular culture. Little did I know I would look back on those days and think what a blessing they were compared to what we are now offered. I think sought-after celebrities lose sight of what got them there and only focus on never having any privacy. It takes a lot of understanding to stay kind and most of them don't have it.

I guess he deserves his peace and quiet.

So Ringo has finally decided he's rich enough not to bother with the people who got him there, eh?

Funny you talked about this.
A friend of mine who lives next door came over for dinner.
He noticed that I have a few Beatles card.
Ask me if I will sell them.
No,you can have them.
Are you sure,yes.
After a nice evening.
The next night the door bell rang and it was Tom.
He brought dozen of cd of the Beatles.
Mind you,did not ask for them.
He is an ex disc jockey.
I gone pass the stage of the Beatles.
Did not want to hurt the guy feeling.
He did such a great job.

But it was fun to hear them again.
The White Album.Abbey Road.Help,Hard Day Night etc.
Oh!well.I will listened to them all.
Then will passed them on to someone.

His troubles would be over if he would change his name to an unpronounceable symbol and get plastic surgery so he's unrecognizable. And we wouldn't miss him.
