Closing the Deficit Gap ...

I have one easy solution to the mess in D.C.

Put a 100 percent tax on political contributions.

Man, why don't we just have a king or queen? We don't do very well with elections. I think maybe we should elect Edward James Olmos. He's an inspiring person (or at least he plays in movies that are); the Hispanic community is now possibly the largest in the population; and he's cooler than Obama ever was.

Sadly, the giant gorilla loophole in the Constitution is the fourth branch of government - the Lobby. The Lobby is the fountain of cash that feeds the political machine that keeps sending the same law school graduates back to Congress. In the perfect system, Attorneys should never be given the seats. They are the manipulators of the law. It is their trade. We need to send housewives, farmers and welders to D.C. Teachers, real estate salesmen and small business owners. Bartenders, waiters and delivery drivers.

I love your idea of taxing contributions ... but I don't agree that sending "ordinary" citizens to Washington would result in better legislation. I'd just like the system of getting things done to be unhindered by insane rules that allow obstruction to take place. Also the system has a way of corrupting newcomers who start out with ideals and turn into politicians.

And make both ends pay the tax... both the recipient and the contributor.
