About ten years ago I had arthroscopic knee surgery, which has since been shown to have little long lasting effect. I got about 3 or 4 years out of it, so I'm not complaining. But the time again came for me to go back and see the doc. Even tho the damage is in the knee itself, when it gets really bad, the whole leg just aches, usually worse at night.
It took a few weeks to get an appointment. I showed up there a half hour early since I had a dentist appointment in the same building, and by the time I got upstairs from the registration desk, they had an order for x-rays waiting. So I went back downstairs and had the x-rays taken. If you haven't have x-rays lately, let me tell you, things have changed.
The process is all digital now. No "film". The tech invited me to watch the process. She took the x-ray cases and put them into what looked like a large floppy drive. The device made noises like a scanner, and the image of the x-ray resolved on a computer monitor. So, the x-rays were ready for the doc to view before I got back upstairs, since a patient's entire medical record including x-rays is available to any doc on the computer system.
I got called into the exam room about a half-hour late, but they couldn't get me out fast enough. The nurse asked a few questions and the doc came in for 3 or 4 minutes. He asked if I wanted "the shot" and I said yes, unless there was a new, improved alternative--apparently there wasn't, and the nurse came back with the shot.
Did you ever notice how they put stuff like that right on the table in front of the patient and then leave the room? I think the needle was rather large, but Donna kept telling me how small it was compared to some ah.. some longer needle she had experience with. So, after a few minutes to ponder the size of the needle, the doc came back in to do the deed.
The needle really doesn't feel like much once it's in. The contents are thick, so it takes 20 seconds or so to empty the grease, but it was no big deal. It can take a day or to before it becomes effective, so I'm still waiting. My eventual goal is to walk the two miles to town (and back). I went out to split wood this afternoon and didn't have much trouble getting around, so maybe it will work out Ok. I haven't taken any Motrin today, and I could probably kill the pain by taking some, but I want to avoid the stuff if I can.....
Spinning stay put while you pedal. The other is working at it.
Sorry, that this is not helping you any.
I refused shots for the chemical in it turn me off.
