More Americana (Includes Videos)

Last night was Fair on the Square again in Delhi. I posted a video tour of the event after the first week. It's held every Friday in July from 5 til 9 p.m. Some organizations and fire departments sell food, BBQ, strawberry shortcake, pop corn and s few other things that I didn't take not of. Private vendors sell their goods, and we were there to promote 4C Camp for Adults. Our neighbors were members of the Delaware County Senior Counsel and they were raising money for their valuable cause (no, I don't know what it is).

They were holding what they call a "cake walk", but as the gentleman said, "we're old, so we don't walk". I sent Donna over to win a cake for me and since she was there I figured I'd shoot a video. It speaks for itself. Even the part about: she didn't win.

I guess I should post a picture of our booth before I move on to the next video. We had a nice presentation, if I do say so myself, and I Do!

I was standing behind the sign when the clown who does those balloon things took the open spot next to our booth. I started to do a quick video and the band began to play "Stand by Me", so I just let the camera do its thing until the song was over.

In other news... We've been on the dry side around here. Not as bad as the parts of the country that really need the rain, but dry enough that I don't have to mow. I've been watering the garden and it's doing very well. We've been eating tomatoes and squash. Zucchini-boat on the menu for tomorrow! This is one of my favorite times of year--fresh tomatoes--the only kind I eat!

All the logs have been dispatched. I ended up with about three cords, which may have been enough, but I called a guy who was selling it for $180 and had him bring some. Turns out he brought 2 cords, so now I have five cords on-site. That should be more than enough, since we burn oil in the beginning of the season when it's not cold enough to keep a wood fire going 24/7.

Tomorrow I have to set up the scaffold and do some work on the windows that the pros didn't do (long story). Then some paint and the outside will be finished. Vinyl is final, as they say, although the windows will need painting again some day. Maybe not on my watch, who knows.

Til next time... happy summer!

Glad you got plenty of strawberry shortcake plus whipped cream! My grandmother made it with pie crust rounds instead of cake. It is good
either way.
comment by elderjane on July 22, 2012 1:09 PM ()
Yup, although I think the whipped cream is the pest part of anything it's put on.

I take it you have wood Windows or wood frames/trim? My house in Indiana has vinyl siding and vinyl windows but the exterior trim is wood. Same problem. Has to be painted periodically.

There wasn't enough $$ in the budget to replace the windows when they put the vinyl on the house, but I didn't realize that painting the windows wasn't included. I don't too much mind doing it, but it would have been better to do it before the siding went on. It's been 10 years since I painted it and most of it really isn't in bad shape. But Donna can't deal with the mustard color.

I really should try shooting more videos.
comment by dragonflyby on July 22, 2012 11:09 AM ()
Yup. I've had this camera for years and am only now getting in the habit of carrying it with me.

I couldn't get the first video to run last night, but watched the cake shuffle this morning. Watching the gal in the tie-dye shirt next to Donna, I said "I thought my cousin Betsy was in Las Vegas, not upstate New York."

I just ran the first vid and it works... donno. If I had decent editing software "Betsy" would be gone, but for now she has to stay. I probably should have done a second video, but I didn't think of it after I had the first.

I saw one woman give him money, the one whose kid got the pink hat with a heart-shaped balloon in it, and I backed up the video to see if there was money involved for the black and green sculpture, but couldn't quite tell - it looked like the mother had her wallet or something in hand.

I just watched the beginning again. The woman in pink is holding bills from the beginning. LOL Looked like a drug deal the way it changed hands. They both looked experienced at that!

He seems to wonder around so I don't know if he has a booth as a base, with a sing... maybe he works for tips, but that would be iffy.

That clown is scary looking. I love your videos. I'm going to steam my floor one of these days.
comment by troutbend on July 21, 2012 7:44 PM ()
I never did find out how that clown makes money and for whom. I didn't see any cash changing hands.

Now YOU made ME hungry!!!! I CRAVE strawberry shortcake--and it is all your fault!
comment by greatmartin on July 21, 2012 5:49 PM ()
They had cake in bowls already and put the berries on when somebody ordered one. The lady picked up the whipped cream and asked if I want it. As soon as she really looked at me she realized the answer and sprayed away! I was prepared to ask for the "fat guy" portion, but I didn't need to.
