Tan Lines

I have them. On my arms, that is. What were you thinking? LOL
Seriously, I've been working for my dad moving and delivering portable storage buildings. I've also gone to help a friend roof a house, one day. And I've been working outside in our yard. Now, roofing and building moving require long sleeved shirts, unless you want to invite skin cancer and lots of scrapes. The yard work, well, somehow I got caught up doing that in a shorter sleeved shirt.
This building moving business is something else! I never knew so many people had storage building. Furthermore, I never even imagined so many people wanted them moved. My dad has enough work lined up to keep him busy for many days.
It's quite a process, disentangling the building from any other edifices, vines, shrubs and junk. Raising it up and loading it onto the specially made trailer with skids that slide out to about 89 inches. Booming it down to the trailer and strapping it. Overside load signs and flags, etc. Permits from DOT. Positioning and unloading the building. Then, leveling it off on blocks and shims. We don't leave until the customer is very happy with the positioning, leveling and even smooth functioning of the doors. My dad is a very customer-service oriented person.
Cheerio, dear MyBloggers friends. It's getting late and Jenn and I have a child birth class all day tomorrow at Mercy Hospital. Gotta run.

No tan lines is good! Less risk of skin cancer. I tell Jennifer all the time, "You don't need a tan. I like you just as white as you are."

The farmer on my farm told us that he thinks long-sleeved shirts are cooler even in the summer, meanwhile his son was standing there in a western shirt with the entire sleeves ripped off shaking his head in disagreement. I guess it's a matter of preference.

I agree with the farmer (dad). In the long run, sleeves offer less pain and suffering. Does it get very hot up where you are? If not, forget about your trip down here. Jeri and Ted and Jennifer and I are going to your place for the summer. We'll take the red cabin. I'm kidding. We chose children over travel, so our budget looks different these days.

You are getting a lot accomplished these days.

I never seem to get caught up, though! How are you and Ted holding up in this heat? If you need anything, please let us know.

That's what we call a "farmer's tan". My suggestion: sun screen.

And a big, ol floppy, straw hat. I love mine. Long sleeves really are cooler in summertime.

You're not only getting a tan (and vitamin D), but a good workout. Sounds like your dad is whipping you in shape!

Interesting word that "whipping". And yes, he is!

Tan lines from last year? How do you do that?
reply by jerms on June 5, 2011 8:10 PM ()
We call that a farmer's tan. I fondly remember my dad's forearms baked to a golden brown while his upper arms were bone white.

Speaking of farmers...I've got my little garden going with some cukes, peppers, onions, tomatoes and a few other things. Got some carrot and pea seeds today. I just might turn my black thumb into a green one after all!

Come on down--I'll take you to Haulover Beach where you can get rid of the tan lines--it is a nude beach! And no work!
comment by greatmartin on June 3, 2011 8:29 PM ()
Argh....Martin!!! Terrible mental images are surfacing in my brain. YOU DO NOT WANT ME AT ANY NUDE BEACHES!! The blindness and pain would be too much for those around me.
