Minds Under Construction

I passed all my finals. The only class I was stressing about was my Physics class. Since the beginning that has been the only class that had me worried, and I thought for sure I was going to fail it. But I didn't! I feel really proud of myself for ending up with a B-. My other courses were graded as P (Pass) or NP (No Credit) and I received all Pass grades.

The hardest part about finals at my college is that we only had three days to review. So all those three days was spent with my eyes glued to a book and my hand writing nonstop ! So when the finals came I was exhausted. But at the end of the day it is all worth it. Anyways my finals are over and I'm happy that I got decent grades.

My schedule for Sophomore year (Fall) won't be decided until mid-August. That is when online registration will happen. I heard that 2nd year Architecture is much different than all other years, primarily because it has a studio course (like I had 1st semester), along with a series of Arch 201 courses. These courses tend to be more history and theory based. So I'm pretty sure I'll have a couple classes which cover more classic architecture with focus on the theories behind them. It should be interesting!

I've already started working at the construction job - Monday was my first day. I've only been at it for 4 days and it's already pretty overwhelming. I have been having the worst anxiety - not sure why this is so different this time for me. The funny thing is, last summer I worked a construction job, too. The difference being I worked for my brother-in-law, and he was the best boss. I am feeling pretty freaking crazy!! I'm normally an outgoing person but I struggle with change a great amount.

Taking a deep breath and reminding myself that "this is a summer job" , has actually been what has gotten me through the past couple of days. The pay is awesome, so that's also a big plus.

From those who have been through this, what I really want to know (or need to know for my own sanity) is how long this feeling last?

In two weeks, my friends and I, will be traveling to The Cave of the Mounds and House on the Rock - two Wisconsin historical sites, which I've never been to before. I'm really excited to see them! I'll definitely post about it. I am planning on taking pictures of the cave formations and also several photos of the House on the Rock, an architectural oddity!

Congratulations on your grades. You will be a much better architect for
having worked in construction. One of our local architects always has
roof leaks. I think Frank Lloyd Wright did too. The practical knowledge
that you gain will be invaluable. Just get through each day and don't
stress about it. The worst that can happen probably won't.

So far on my job I've been doing a LOT of sweeping up of site areas and well..mostly grunt work. It's a bit easier now that I sort of know what's expected of me.

Thanks! I had a much better day today. My sister gave me some great stress relieving exercises/and coping strategies to help me deal with my work anxiety. So far they seem to be helping me.

Wonderful news about the physics grade! College courses get easier as you get into the more advanced courses related to your major.

I had a summer job right after I graduated from college where I totally didn't fit in. I don't know if people noticed, but they would say things to me, and it was like dogs barking - my brain didn't comprehend what they were saying, and I made tons of mistakes. Oh, they probably noticed. What could I have done to make it better? I don't know. Maybe more self confidence.

I agree about the importance of building one's self confidence. It really does help to overcome things like anxiety and self doubt. I had plenty of that when I was younger!
Today was a good day at work, so things seem to be looking up! My sister told me that anxiety is simply a normal reaction to stress and she gave me some great coping strategies to use before and during work. Hopefully they will continue to work.

The stressing seems rough now, but you will be grateful for it later on when you can look back from a really tough spot and remind yourself that you made it through tough situations before and it will be easier the second time!

Hi Martin...yeah, I've gotten through my first week of work and I think I'll make it through the summer all right. It must have been just stupid anxiety about my first full time job or something, who knows. I had a much better day today. Thanks!
Brent and I are doing okay. We both enjoy spending time together, but I don't really see our relationship as boyfriends lasting much longer. Hopefully we can remain friends though. He's a good guy who is a lot of fun to be around. So we'll see what happens. Thanks for asking!

When you're ever in this area, you might be interested in checking those places out to visit. They are both located 2 hours west of Milwaukee (past Madison), so both places make a good day trip.
Thanks for your kind words about my anxiety. It'll get better..
