Elephants and Donkeys

image

Fooled Ya! I bet you thought this was going to be a post with pictures of elephants and donkeys. Well it isn't. :)

This will be my first time voting in a Presidential Election, which is amazing since I've always loved and followed politics. I think I got the politics gene from Dad.

I can't wait for Tuesday to finally get here. During the 2008 Presidential election my family was split down the middle when it came to votes..Dad and brother-in-law voting for John McCain, while my Mom and sister voted for Barack Obama. I was glad when President Obama won. He lived in Chicago, not far from where I grew up, and he came across like a real likeable person. Very intelligent too.

I'm voting for President Obama in the 2012 election. I just don't like (or trust) Mitt Romney at all. He may be a great businessman and salesman in the private sector, but my skin crawls whenever I see him on TV or in Advertisements. There is something I find very unnerving about him.

I tried to stay up to date with everything, but I just didn't have a lot of time to become an expert on the topics. I tried to grasp the general concepts and incorporate that into my personal positions on the issues when possible.

Even if I were straight, I'd be voting Obama for one reason and that is because he is willing to allow gay marriage in this country.

In my mind, discrimination of homosexuals is no different than flat out racism. Romney and (some) Republicans with the "family-values" platform are promoting discrimination and inequality for tax paying American citizens. That is so wrong and I will not under any circumstances support that.

And Romney and Paul Ryan want to write it into the Constitution, a document that is meant to guarantee and protect the basic freedoms of the United Stats citizens - not restrict them.

Again... unacceptable, despicable, and disgusting. A vote for Romney is a vote for discrimination and hate -IMO.

And another thing about Romney that I dislike is his stance on woman's rights, contraception, and abortion. I was brought up (but no longer identify ) as Catholic. My parents didn't adhere to the strict doctrines handed down by the Pope. My parents pretty much raised my sister and I to think for ourselves and question the role organized religion plays in our society. I just don't believe government has the right to decide what women can and can't do with their own bodies.

I read today that a Catholic Bishop wrote a letter to all the Archdiocesan priests to inform them that they, no matter their own personal views, MUST preach their homily on doing their duty as Catholics and voting for Romney on Tuesday. I couldn't believe it! So now we have a Bishop telling entire congregations of people what to think, including their priests! I hope there was a lot of outrage by priests and lay people if this actually went down today. I'd be just as pissed off it was Obama they were pushing down everyone's throat. I want to find an update on this story. I'm interested to know if any priests actually did the required vote Romney-or-else homily today or not. Hmm.

Hopefully I didn't offend any pro-life people out there or Pro-Romney voters, but I just had to get that off my chest.

Once again thanks for all the kind thoughts - you are all so nice! :) I'm back in my classes again which I'm excited about. Thanks again!

If you’re not liberal when you’re 20, you have no heart. If you’re not conservative when you’re 40, you have no brain. You will figure it out!

Congrats on your first chance to vote in a Presidential election! I remember my first one ... I got to vote for Bill Clinton's re-election. It was really exciting having the chance to actually vote. I even got to do it on the old mechanical voting machines with the lever.

I don't think your reasons for your selection would offend anyone. It is an explanation based on your beliefs rather than being hostile or denigrating of the other side. No one can begrudge you that.

Of course, I wholly agree with you so I am probably not unbiased.

George Bush left a mess in the White House and very hard at that time to cleaned it up.
Let us hope that he can pull this through and will be glad that this will be over soon.
