Greece, Island of Kos

Last week no post from me for the simple reason that I was in Greece for a week. We left Thursday April 28 3.45 AM from home. My son brought us that early hour to Schiphol airport where our flight was scheduled 6.05. It's still needed to be at the airport 2 hours before leaving for european flights that is.
Our flight was ok and after a quick transfer to our apartment, we were able to explore Kos-Town, capital of the island Kos.
The weather was not what we expected but improved quite well the next hours. It was early in the season, in fact we were in the first groups of tourists this year. That also was visible cause of the activities that were going on in painting and renewing the decorations in a lot of restaurants and hotels.
We saw a lot that week, we had rented a bike for six days so we kept the body moving ( to reduce the calories cause of the lots of food and drinks lol). Sunday the first of May we went to Bodrum in Turkey, a sail of 50 minutes from the island of Kos, where we visited the old castle and shopped in the shops of the "bazaar". Bodrum is famous because of the many shops where you can buy articles at very low prices...yes we bought some things as well. My wife a nice pair of shoes and I bought a nice "g-star"-short and (probably fake) underwear ( 5 boxers for just 10 euro of the brands Armani, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss). It all fits well (so far lol).
Several days we spent some hours at the beach, where i read quite some of a 950 paged book of Ildefonse Falcones, called "the hand of Fatima" (Aaron I can recommend it, see https://www.bol.com/nl/p/engelse-boeken/the-hand-of-fatima/1001004008172864/index.html ). I also was able to doze a lot while sunbathing with some nice music in my ears ( i love my iphone lol) so..it was relaxing at the beach a lot, and it even tanned me a bit.
For Martin a quicky about the food: The Greek food is not my favorite but I ate quite well most of the nights. There also was a Mexican restaurant which had some great dishes ( pity it was too much lol) and also a greek/dutch restaurant with a huge menu with several well tasting things on it (https://www.filarakia-kos.gr/ENG/engels_site.htm ). Also, A greek tradition, there was some Ouzo to drink when we asked for the bill.
So, a quite relaxing week it was. Last Thursday we went home again, just in time to celebrate my wifes birthday the 6th of May.

I lived in Greece for two years (64-66) and never learned to drink Ouzo; I think it is nasty. I did acquire a taste for Retsina which is their national wine. We lived in an area called Kalamaki which is not far from Athens. My oldest son was born there.
Would love to go back someday.

I want so much to visit Greece, especially the islands. Are they "touristy"? I don't want that. I'll have to look up the location of Kos. I know Santori is for tourists, but I'd still like to go there. Some day!

Kos is, like some other islands touristy yes, but there are several islands who arent. When you dont want touristy avoid islands like Kreta, Kos, Lesbos and rhodos and take the smaller isles

What did you have to eat at the Mexican restaurant? Next time I go to England I'm going to one of their Mexican restaurants to see what it's like. We have Tex-Mex and regular Mex in this country and they differ somewhat.
