Germany and Italy 2011

My holiday this year was a European one. Every other year we try to visit a country outside Europe and the other years we stay in Europe and spend our holiday in a caravan somewhere in a more southern country, after all we are "nice weather-campers".
We left for the South of Germany (in German "Schwarzwald") the 25th of July. It was just a one day drive so at 5 PM we were settled and able to take a drink in the village nearby the campsite.
Off course we went out for dinner and ate a typical German thing: The "Wiener Schnitzel" in English an escalope Milanese. As a side dish a typical German dressed mixed salad containing white cole, carrots , cucumber and so dressed with a dressing based on vinegar.
This first week abroad we made nice trips to cities in the neighborhood and made a nice walk in the nature. We visited a glassblower (don't know if that is correct English lol) and also did some nice shoppings in Freiburg which town we were able to visit by train for free ( promotion of the south German tourism). It was quite a coincidence I even met a colleague on the same campsite as were i stayed ( and it was really a little campsite)
We stayed in Schwarzwald till Sunday July 31, that day we left for the north of the Como lake in northern part of Italy.
That part of Italy is beautiful, all kind of nice little towns with houses in all nice pastel colors laying at the banks of the "lago di Como".
We arrived on a nice little campsite, we were settled quite quick and already round 4 PM i was drinking a cold beer in the warm sun.
From there we were able to visit a lot of beautiful places. Milano and Como were nice to visit, nice "Dom" (kind of cathedral) there and great classical shopping centers with all famous names like Prada, Armani and so.... it was great.
By boat we visited the pittoresque city of Bellagio (yes, where the casino in Las Vegas got his name from). Its built against a hill with a beautiful view over the Como lake.
Going out for dinner in Italy always is a pleasure. Nice pasta's we ate with all kind of nice vegetables and sauces. The famous Italian ice always is such a great experience as well and...don't forget the pizza, after all that's where the pizza has its origin.
The weather was mostly great in Italy during the day after a period of rather cold evenings in Germany (some even with rain). Just the last 2 days there was some heavy rain with lots of wind, but that we could manage in the caravan lol.
Sunday august 7 we left a bit more south to the "lago di Garda" and stayed there on a campsite near the beautiful town of Sirmione. Here the weather was so beautiful that we spent a lot of time on the campsite with sunbathing and relaxing. Because Venice was quite close we also spend a day there. We left by car and parked in the last town before Venice. The final part we did by train to avoid the expensive boat traveling in Venice. I know its romantic to have a gondola for a sail but.... it's terribly expensive as well....

Specially for Martin: On the campsite we had a great restaurant where we ate several times. Every night they served some specials so we ate there very well. I only will mention a great "fish dish" with some varieties of fish on it, nice brochette's with crispy bread topped with very nice tasting tomato pieces and basil on it and great pepper steaks, great pasta's ..great wine and coffee..What more can i wish.

We had made a reservation for a week there but we were able to add 2 extra days so we finally left home the 16th and arrived home the 17th. We will have to wait quite some time again to go abroad again.

Pics on FB btw...

I enjoy hearing about your travels since we get out on the road so seldom these days. We did renew our passports, just in case one day we are ready to go to Italy or somewhere like that.

Glad that you liked Italy. We adored it this year.
Been to some of the places there, did not care for Milano was too cospoltian for us.The rest was fine.
Pizza is much better there, not a lot of crap on the surface.
Most of the pizza here are not Italian but American.
Pizza is soft and thin we little topping. After all with the tomato sauce and cheese who needs all the other that the American puts on.
They have Italian name and thats it.Viva Italiano.
