Before
I get into my blog themadwidow at blogster posted an interesting blog
this afternoon and I liked my response to her. Many of you who know me
have heard me say most of this before but I thought I wouold share it
again just in case you don't know me.
"I stopped
questioning 'life' many years ago and learned to just enjoy it--even the
bad curve balls and everything else that comes along--it is more
important for me to wake up in the morning and enjoy whatever the day
brings--I've had a few bad diagnoses this past week--you know what? So
what?! I'm sitting here, reading, commenting , hunting and pecking on
the keyboard, it's getting ready to rain, I just did a good deed and the
day is full and not even 1/2 over for me!
So if
you happen to bump into an old gray haired man with a smile on his face,
maybe even singing and dancing in the rain (I do that--you should see
the reaction of people--oh, by the way, I can't carry a tune and I don't
know how to dance!), say hello to the happiest, luckiest, richest
(certainly not in money!) 75 year old man you will meet today! "

That's Jean in-between Bernie and me in the upper right and lower left
In
1967 I joined an organization called Weight Watchers started in New
York by Jean Nidetch from Brooklyn and it completely changed my life in
many ways. I lost my weight, went to work as one of the most popular
lecturers, met a lover, moved to Memphis to open the franchise, got a
'divorce', opened my own organization. Losing the weight also motivated
me to go into therapy and I got involved with Transactional Analysis.
better known as "You're Okay, I'm Okay" and "Games People Play" which
set my life on another path and made me as fabulous as I think I am!
(HUSH!)
The 10th Anniversary program from the Madison Square Garden celebration
Imagine
my surprise today when I saw her picture and a story about her now
living in South Florida. I read it plus looked at the video enclosed in
the report. Jean is now 87 and she was one of the most famous people in
the USA in the 70s and 80s but, sadly, to me, like many 'stars' she
doesn't know when to leave the stage gracefully. I am, and always will
be, grateful for her starting WW--it, literally, saved my life. For the

Also in today's paper:
GOP poll: Tea party movement could cost Republicans in 2012
Beware, Florida Republicans: The tea party movement that swept you into office in 2010 could cost you the next election.
That’s
the takeaway message from Republican pollster and consultant Alex
Patton, who conducted a recent survey showing that, by a 2:1 ratio,
registered Florida voters said the tea party movement did not represent
their views.
The sentiment against the tea party
is significantly higher among self-described independent voters, who
swing elections in Florida and who looked unfavorably on the tea party
by 3-to-1, the poll showed. Only Republican voters favored the tea party
movement, with 68 percent in support and less than 20 percent opposed.
“There’s
a real danger to Republican candidates,” said Patton, a founder of the
Gainesville-based War Room Logistics polling firm.
“If,
in a primary race statewide, a candidate hugs the tea party too tightly
in order to win the primary,” he said, “it significantly causes you
issues in a general election.”
But there’s a
catch for Republicans: The tea party movement is dear to the base of the
GOP. Last year it helped fuel the Republican takeover in the Florida
Cabinet as well as the U.S. House. So Republican candidates for
president and U.S. Senate are courting the movement to ensure a primary
win before they face off against President Obama or Sen. Bill Nelson in
the 2012 general election.
“You’re going to see
candidates walk a fine line,” said Tony Fabrizio, pollster for Gov. Rick
Scott, who owed much of his success last year to the tea party.
“The
tea party of a year ago is different from the tea party of today,”
Fabrizio said. “Last year, the tea party was new, fresh and it
represented the antigovernment outsider. Now, the brand maybe has a
little tarnish. ”

Really, Martin, I'm sorry to have offended you. Don't know what came over me, especially expressing my feelings in a comment to you, a person I consider a friend. I'm ashamed of myself.
