I Win Everything But the Lotto!

(But I might win that tonight!)

I've
been a theatre lover for as long as I can remember--in fact going back
to the 1940s--yes, I am old--when my patents took me to see the original
"Oklahoma" on Broadway. Every September in South Florida, and I
understand in other areas of the country, theatres get together and
offer
free tickets and all a person has to do is enter their name and the shows they would like to see. I put in for 5 shows.

Last week I received the following e-mail:

Hello, Martin D Goodkin Congratulations!!! You've won free tickets:

Make sure you confirm now After The Revolution (2 )tickets valued together at $76)

I
was doubly pleased because aside from winning the tickets the play is
at The Caldwell Playhouse in Boca Raton and I hadn't been there since
they built a new theatre. I went to the Playhouse for years starting
when they opened in a storefront in a mall and then when they moved to
another building in this shopping center.

ABOUT THE CALDWELL THEATRE COMPANY

Caldwell
Theatre Company opened its doors in December 1975 at the suggestion of
James R. Caldwell, inventor of the rubber dustpan and founder of the
Rubbermaid Corporation. During the past 33 years in four different
locations, and now in its own, permanent Count de Hoernle Theatre on
U.S. 1 in north Boca Raton, the Caldwell has been called South Florida’s
“Cinderella Theatre” and Boca Raton’s “Jewel in the Crown.” Artistic
director Michael Hall, who co-founded the theater with the late Frank
Bennett, continues as artistic director, and company manager Patricia
Burdett marks her 32nd season this year.

The
play we will be seeing, on Wednesday, October 19,  is one written by
Amy Herzog that was produced at the Playwright Horizon theatre in New
York.

Six
days later, on the 25th, we go to Miami for the opening of "The Addams
Family"--remember them?--which starts their 2011-2012 season.

With
"Rain" and "Phantom" it has been a good theatre month--I could live
like this forever--especially since I don't pay a penny for the live
theatre productions in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and have the status of
being a drama critic for 2 mnajor web sites plus my blogging sites. How
lucky can I get????

I love theater. I remember seeing Oklahoma when I was a little girl. The Addams Family (with Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth) was in Chicago before it went to New York. Many shows are doing their tryouts here now. Lucky for us.

Chicago has become a big theatre city--Addams Family didn't get good reviews in NYC and from what I have understood it has been completely redone--will write a review when I see it.
