Wilton's Bier Garden--ft. Lauderdale--review

Living
in Florida over 56 years, except for 10 in Memphis, I prefer sitting in
air conditioning than outside next to fuel spewing cars, buses, etc.,
but for the choice for lunch at Wilton's Bier Garden was either outside
with thunder rambling and dark clouds coming east or sitting inside in a
bar with high tables--neither choice a good one for me but we sat
outside.
Having been a waiter for 38 years I am usually for easy on
servers but the one waiter working the floor was in the weeds with two
deuces and when we sat down we didn't stand a chance,
After ordering
coffee, (($2.75) black with sugar substitute, it took 15 minutes for him
to tell me they didn't have any sugar substitute so like Allen I got a
diet soda ($3) which he did serve pretty quickly.
I won't get into
the mix up not knowing they had a full page of burgers on a separate
lunch menu, which is what we wanted and will get into what we did have.
Allen
had the French Panini ($9.50) which is basically a club with sun dried
cranberries and I had a Dutch Wonderland Panini ($9.50) which is a
corned beef, sauerkraut and swiss cheese sandwich ($9.50) aka a Rueben.
We both had a side of potato salad. He didn't say anything about his
sandwich but I don't recall ever getting a Rueben, no matter what you
call it and no matter what kind of bread you put it on, cold! It was an
okay sandwich but could have been a great one.
We both had dessert,
Allen having the White Russian cake and I had the carrot cake at $5.95
each. The desserts were attractively served in a round design with
syrups decorating the plate and they were good.
The check came to
$38.01 but we were lucky enough to have a Groupon which took $15 off the
check so with a 20% tip on the original check the lunch came to $15
each and the rain never came.
The many different beers they have on
their menu might be  selling point but the service leaves a lot to be
desired, the food needs improvement and they really need more of a
'fence' of trees around the patio area to make it more desirable.

I thought paninis were supposed to served hot or warm, just by definition. Looks like they put on grill marks just for appearance. I wonder what I'm going to make for dinner.

Well they were a little warm--probably from the temperatures outside!!
Labor Day weekend--aren't you suppose to have hot dogs and/or burgers???

Yup, very nice. But what would be even better would be to send to the readers gift cards so they (read: me) could try a different establishment now and then themselves.

Too bad about the joint. The pic of the panini and white russian look really good!

Good restaurants are so hard to find but I sacrifice myself by trying them out for the readers!!! Isn't that nice of me?????
