***************************************************************** Yom Kippur (October 7) Also known as Day of Atonement , is the holiest day of the year for Jews . Its central themes are atonement and repentance . The Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanuh--Sept. 29) starts 10 days before and
then on Yom Kippur we fast for 24 hours to atone for any sins committed
the previous year--beats having to go to confession every Sunday! As I
remind people I don't have to fast as I don't sin! (No comments!)

Like
the rest of the country in the 1970s I was glued to my TV watching "All
In The Family" which made us laugh at the Right Wing and the Liberals
with Archie representing the former and the latter couldn't believe how
stupid the man was while his son-in-law, Meathead, representing the Left
had the Republicans shaking their head in disgust! I haven't watched
the show since but came across it on the cable TVLAND station! It as
funny today as it was then and just as true a picture of the Right and
Left 30 years later!

I
have learned over the years that I can sleep through hurricanes,
tornadoes, lawn mowers, leaf blowers almost anything but the a/c cutting
off in the middle of the night. It happened the other nigh--actually 4
in the morning-- and I immediately woke up--it went back on about 2
minutes later and I was fast asleep but the bedroom clock also went off
so I got a little late start the next day.

I
constantly surprise myself. Around 9 PM the other evening I lost the
AT&T DSL contact--I was cut off the Internet! I instantly called
AT&T and believe it or not got a person to talk to who spoke and
understood English! We spent close to an hour trying all sorts of things
that just didn't work. All of a sudden she started stammering,
stuttering and apologizing all over the place--turns out that it was
AT&T's fault and that the DSL would be out until, at least, 6 in the
morning! She was really flustered at not having checked that out first
that I consoled her! As it was I found out I could spend an evening
without the Internet!! Did some paper and magazine reading--watched the
boob tube and got caught up on tentative plans for the November Gazette
issue. It was NOT the end of the world!
