I've been going to the movies ever since I was a baby--yes, in the ice age!!!-and I
am sure I have seen any and every 'classic' some more than once. I
have been going to the movies every Friday, with very few exceptions,
for the past 35 years especially at my favorite theatre, The Gateway,
which shows independent films, 'art' films, Gay films, the latest
Hollywood films and since it is within walking distance I will,
occasionally, go on a Tuesday. There is also the Riverfront Theatre that
shows the 'big' films in auditoriums with comfortable stadium seating . We use to go to the AMC Coral Ridge movie house but haven't been there in awhile since they
are a little higher priced than other theatres and also charge for
their 'movie reward' cards where the others give it to you free--the
main reason we don't go there is because they have wrong hours for the
showing of thefilms.
On a rare occasion we will go either
to the Regal, which is near Sweet Tomatoes, or up in Pompano to Movico
which will show special films, shown by Fathom, like live Broadway shows
or opera performances.
Yes, I remember the old days when
they showed 2 films, a newsreel, a cartoon, coming attractions and
cahrged as much as 25 cents! They built movie palaces back then with a
moving sky on the ceiling and some even had organs. Today many are being
refurbished to their former glory.
I have a very hard time
picking '10 best films' out of the thousands I have seen. A month or
two ago I posted about 100 films ranging from mysteries, romance,
comedies, dramas and other genres but that doesn't even cover so many
that when I surf the TV make me stop and watch them---again! For an
example I came across "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" that had just
started and once again watched it to the end though I know every scene,
almost every line, by heart.
Just for the record I firmly
believe that a movie should be on a movie screen in a movie theatre for
which it was made. The only time I will watch a film on TV is if it
hasn't played theatres or I want to see it again. The same goes for
DVDs--I own a few of films that I loved on screen and want to watch
again such as "Monster" or "Dreamgirls". Sorry but a 66" TV screen is
NOT a movie screen.
