With
just a little effort Hungry Howie's, on Federal Highway, could easily
be a 4 star restaurant but that's getting ahead of myself.
We had a
Groupon for $15 which included a large salad, a large 3 topping pizza,
10 Howie wings and cinnaMMM bread which normally would have come to
$37.42 plus tax (and that infernal tip jar!) Bottle sodas ($1.25) were
extra. There is certainly no complaining about the price which came to
$9.23 each.
We had a choice of 4 salads and we had the antipasto
which consisted of lettuce, ham, pepperoni, cheese, tomatoes, black
olives and Banana papers plus a choice of dressing and tasted freshly
made.
Along with your choice of 3 toppings you also had a choice of
crust and we chose garlic herb and our toppings pepperoni, black olives
and ground beef. The pizza was hot, tasty and, once again, freshly made.
I
wasn't particularly thrilled with the Cinna-MMM bread which were heated
bread stick brushed with cinnamon and cups of icing served on the side.
Last,
but not least, were a portion of 10, slightly spiced, wings served with
a packet of Bleu Cheese dressing and a small loaf of Spicy Howie bread
which, with the pizza and cinnamon bread, was completely unnecessary.
Getting
back to the rating--there were 2 other parties completely served and
ours was the only order in the kitchen. Instead of serving the salad or
wings while the pizza was being made we.everything was brought at once
overwhelming the table and us. Of course, we had to choose between half
the pizza or most of the wings or the cinnamon bread getting cold. In
addition we had to get all the boxes at the register.
The food was
good, not great, the Groupon price was certainly right but without that
extra effort there is no reason to return to Hungry Howie's with the,
literally, thousands of Italian restaurants in Broward county to choose
from.
