Growing an Avocado at Home

On
February 20 haven gotten a couple of avocados, and eating them, of
course, I decided to grow a couple of house plants, something I haven't
done in a long time.

By March 1 a few roots started to show. One had already started to spout a stem.

The
one that had spouted a stem continued to grow while the other one was
growing very slowly. On March 31 I transferred them to a pot with soil.

On
April 3 both stems had leaves though one was still growing faster than
the other. I debated cutting the taller one back but I remembered that
wouldn't give it a fuller look but still grow on one stem.

As of April 7 both doing well--still debating whether to cut the taller one back

That's great! I've managed to get a few things started like that but they don't last long. I'm trying to keep alive a blueberry "bush" Donna had to have as an impulse buy. The damn thing is in the ground, but looks quite dead even tho I cover it every night when the temp drops. Then we found out that it's necessary to have more than one bush to fertilize each other, so I'm trying to keep the other two alive in the bags in the house until the night get a bit warmer... Ugh.... this might be why I never buy on impulse!

I find it easier raising fruits and vegetables as 'house plants'--avocados, potatoes, especially sweet potatoes, herbs, spices, etc.

Those are nice looking plants. I think you should cut it back - the Calif. Avocado Growers website says when the stem is 12 inches, cut it back to 6 inches so it'll grow more shoots. Speaking of chocolate, I have some almonds dry-roasted with a cocoa coating - same calories as plain almonds, great chocolate taste.

Can you grow chocolate covered almonds?????
I might try cutting back the second one and see what happens. In fact I just did--will see what happens--if it dies I will sue you and the CAG!!!
