Gateway Gazette, Hair, Home Show, Avatar Contest

Just
a half a page to do this evening and I will be ready to hand in the
completed June issue of the Gateway Gazette tomorrow morning for my
'bosses' to proof, correct, change and either give thumbs up or thumbs
down. Of course they are too nice so I will probably get the former
--hey a little 'sucking up' never hurts! I think, hope, know that the next issue will be a lot easier, smarter and faster. As
soon as we get this issue to the printer I will start on the July issue
(oh, oh, one shouldn't assume but will go ahead anyway!) at cleaning it
up. I definitely will have to rework the calendar and get all the
templates to be the same along with the page numbers, dates
and getting it uniform.

(My
bosses (from the left): Suzanne, the Gateway Administrator, Babs the
Gateway Social Worker and Irene, the Gateway Assistant Administrator.)

I
am already set with a column spotlighting Irene, spoke to Arnie about
being the first resident profiled, got a bunch of items for the The
Savings Corner, 'investigating' how to get large items of furniture
removed from apartments without cost as The Question of the Month,
leaving room for Suzanne's and Bab's column plus such standard items
like new residents, birthdays, etc., and look for input from the other
residents. Also, and this is not a promise!, I may even get up early
enough to go to the General Assembly meeting  in July!!

A
couple of you asked if I could email you a copy but I don't know if
that will be allowed or if it even gets posted on the Internet--I'll
have to check with Suzanne.

Tomorrow I will post the final two avatars that got the most votes in
the avatar contest. Hint: the one above is in the running. Seems like
people want to see me eating! LOL

******************************************************************

Talking
about food--who me????--last year, when Chuck and Terry came to visit,
they brought me a box of assorted brownies and bars that were delicious
and were made by friends of theirs that started a new company. This past
month, wanting to send some people a gift for their making it possible
for me to go to the theatre again, I decided to send them a box of
'goodies' from their company and I got great raves from the people who
received them. If you have birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions
or even for the holidays--hey, Christmas will be here before you know
it!--give a look to zestofmemphis.com I am almost willing to bet you'll
order some for yourself! Tell Lance Martin said "Hi"--who knows, maybe
I'll get a brownie out of it! LOL Could be the winner of the avatar
contest might be tasting some 'Memphis Heaven' soon!

******************************************************************

I
must be doing something right! As you know since last September I have
been writing reviews of the Broadway touring companies, and movies,  for
Corine Cohen's corinescorner.com web site.  I got a request this past
week about possibly doing video interviews of the stars that come to
South Florida for the site. I am not sure that I can handle the
technology to take them plus get them to her via the Internet. For a
change I am not jumping into this and will give it some thought because
there is the time element involved not to mention having to burden Allen
with getting me to and from the interviews. (NO! I didn't win the lotto
or powerball last night so another week without a car.)

*****************************************************************

Busy
Memorial Day weekend coming up. Going to the Home Show and then the
touring production of "Hair" lands in Miami. I, also, start my yearly
doctor visits this Monday which I don't mind except all the time wasted
getting there, waiting in the office and then waiting for TOPS to pick
me up and take me back home. I think I will do all right with the 8
specialists as I have been pretty healthy the past year except for a few
minor problems that most old folks have. Well that's what they tell me.

Okay,
on to writing that last page for the Gazette, giving the whole paper a
look over and hope the ladies don't find too many mistakes or make too
many changes.

Too bad you don't enjoy writing! Did you once say you're a one finger typist? Typing class is HS was the best thing I could have done. Who would have guessed computer keyboarding would be so popular?

Taking typing classes in high school 55-60 years ago was a very snobbish thing--only 'those' type of people (girls!!!) took typing lessons--I wish I had--I have been 'hunting and pecking' writing books, columns, reviews, blogs, etc., for way too many years!
